    In or out

I get the impression the government offered a referendum with the firm belief that the majority of joe public would vote to remain . The "success " of the leave campaigne has them rattled and polls are showing an even ish split or a slight advantage to the leave side. While polls are pretty much...

Second Hand Kitchen (Advice Needed on Fitting Issues)...

I'm a joiner rather than a kitchen fitter so probably not as quick as someone who does it all the time which is something to take into account and without seeing the actual job it's always going to be a rough idea of cost but personally I'd say three days work as an estimate. I tend to work on...

Second Hand Kitchen (Advice Needed on Fitting Issues)...

To be honest I've fitted several secondhand kitchens and really the units are just boxes whether they are new or old . There may be superfluous holes for pipes which are easily covered up with a bit of melamine board . Sometimes the shelves in the unit under the sink has been chopped about too...

Rendering an Outdoor Oven - K-Rend over Vermicrete

I've built an oven similar to what you are describing . To be honest I'm not aquainted with the K-rend stuff you mention , I just used sand and cement with some lime if I recall correctly. I used a scratch coat and built up several layers. No beading on it either although there was chicken mesh...

    Lean-to (moved from General)

It would be interesting to see a picture of the conservatory that you have been offered. It seems a odd arrangement if a concrete pad has just been cast on top of slabs. It's possible the slabs simply butt up to the concrete ? Whether you could fit the conservatory to your house is going to...

    Lean-to (moved from General)

I did wonder just what one would get for less than £250 so decided to look at the Argos site. I assume this is what you are referring to ? http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7058093.htm#pdpFullDesc Something similar on YouTube And he did a follow up And what problems he had and...

    In or out

Fly in the ointment there though Mike is that resources are finite , they cannot be expanded , increased or enlarged. The world is looking at resource depletion in many areas , convential oil peaked some time ago and we are running out of many things from phosphates to metals. Increasing the...

    Lean-to (moved from General)

It reads as if your budget is in the hundreds rather than the thousands and I think that quite honestly you will struggle to get something up for that kind of money. I did once see someone put a caravan close up to a house and seal the join with flashband . Not sure how successful it was and it...

How to enlarge hole through Bath stone

I suppose considering the Egyptians had nothing tougher than copper chisels when they built the pyramids the answer is no not really . We used tungsten tipped tools because they hold their edge and stay sharp for a considerable time. The stores did keep a stock of old chisels that had lost their...

Best Tool for cutting a metal shed up

By a metal green house I assume you mean aluminium in which case you can more than likely just twist it and break the metal sections . Just swing it back and forwards to induce cracks and it will soon come apart. Then just put it in a pile on the front garden near the road and it'll disappear.

Tool for cutting up big stones in my garden

I've sold large stones on eBay before now as well as giving some away on freecycle . Much better than smashing them to bits and dumping them.

    When considering in or out:

In a word yes. I do have concerns that a brexit could lead us to sign a TTIP treaty separately from the rest of Europe just as I have concerns that staying in could result in us being tied to it. At the moment Hollande is making moves to put the ratification on hold although that seems to be...

    painting lead

It's panitation oil not palatine oil https://www.roofingsuperstore.co.uk/product/lead-patination-oil-1litre.html?gclid=CMe14ODBgc0CFW8o0wodnboPCg Leaving aside the reasons that the lead was put up there in the first place I'd suggest not painting it. Lead is notoriously difficult to paint...

Although I've pretty much made up my mind I'm still largely sitting on the fence . The above statement does hold some validity although that's where it becomes confusing for those not yet swayed. yes we have work place protections as well as envoiromental and health protection courtesy of the EU...

Building a fruit cage out of old scaffold

How much? That's a lot of money for something that might not last very long. I built mine from reclaimed materials and off cuts . It's 3x3 timbers , roof lath and a nylon netting scrounged from a site and it's lasted around seven years so far with no problems except for a hole where I slipped...

    What trade?

I started my working life as a joiner/carpenter. I worked most of it in restoration which to be fair is probably hugely different to a carpenters life house bumping but it was very varied work. At times we were used almost as odd job men and asked to do loads of other trades. Useful now I'm a...
