LIGHTING LUX LEVELS FOR CAR PARK AREAS

Shouldn't that statement be followed by something about light levels in car parks? :) Sigh  :(

cricket bowling machine / baseball ?

Ha haa  This reminds me of my A-level design tech project. I made a table tennis server following similar principles. Well, a rapid fire gun if I'm totally honest, but it could potentially have been put near a table tennis table and could motor up and down to either shoot straight...

    Any ideas?

Was it installed in the bedroom by any chance? All you've got to do now is find the secret control centre. Any dodgy looking partition walls? False wall in attic? :D

    Fire rating for spotlights...

You should really have used F-marked fittings (not the same as fire-rated) for mounting in a combustible surface. If you've covered up the laths you may well be OK, but how well are they really covered by presumably just 'painting' some bonding coat round the insides of the holes? To confuse...

    Wiring for 5 downlights

That's even better! So can we edit our usernames on here? Perhaps a request to the admin is in order? Go on.

    Help with a lighting fixture

Someone always has to spoil it! I trust you aren't equally confused by this concept when you're operating your car's steering wheel! :P

    Help with a lighting fixture

    Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey. A rule to live by.

    Lighting

Wow! Was this a very small leisure centre, or do you now have a massive home with 4 squash courts, a 5-a-side footy pitch, swimming pool etc etc etc  I'm also a DIYer doing a full back-to-the-fabric renovation, albeit on a more modest property. Everything except the plastering and...

    Wiring for 5 downlights

BAS, have you considered changing your name to Ban-all-downlights? It would seem more appropriate. You'd have a much better acronym too. :) Liam

Cutting down flat head screws ie those on sockets

In my limited experience, I've found screws supplied with accessories being too short to be more of a problem. I imagine the cut-off ends of shortened screws would be the perfect thing to make screws that are too short longer. What would be the best way to attach these extensions, though -...

Cutting down flat head screws ie those on sockets

Doesn't have to be useless drivel - I was well up for some valid debate regarding whether or not my lathe and die method is really the only way to comply with 134.1.1.

Cutting down flat head screws ie those on sockets

Since when has a nut (or heaven forbid a file  ) been the correct way to repair a damaged thread!? Get off your horses, get a proper lathe to machine the screws shorter with a square face, then run a die up the damn thread. 134.1.1, anybody? :)

    Power consumption of double oven

The official spec sheet says 2.8kW, and the official instruction manual says wire it with 1.5mm flex to a 13A plug. Wouldn't you tend to trust that information? What's this mystery label anyway (photo?)? I think the OP would best be advised to get on the phone to Hoover rather than an...

    Virgin kitchen what supply cables?

Tut tut - they dont look like proper worktop bolts holding those two sections together :). That does remind me to put a bit of wood on the wall like that for my long unsupported worktop run though. Great pics :D

    Lighting

That the strip light didn't work before removal. I mean surely nobody could have wired a pendant wrongly if only a neutral and switched live were present? :?

fitting spotlights into 120 year old lath and plaster ceilin

I've also read for the F mark: 'Suitable for mounting to normally combustible materials', and 'the mounting surface [of the light fitting] will not exceed 90 degrees'. Anyone know what standard the test for F marking is defined in? I think it would be reasonable to include in the definition...

Help please with 12 x 50w downlights & dimmer switch

Or just replace the horribly inefficient halogen bulbs with dimmable low energy versions if your fittings allow, then you'll be well under 250W. Liam

    Bathroom electrics - Lighting specific

When we're talking about outside zones, where no IP rating is required, what exactly would make a fitting unsuitable according to the general rules which apply outside zones? I've seen fittings that are little more than bayonets that would hold completely 'naked' GU10s marked as suitable for...

    Electrical Work, Building Control.

[/url] Interesting - somehow I'd missed that one. Seems an awful lot of effortto go to only to have to pay the same fees anyway! :) Were you forced down this route by an LABC refusing to inspect/test notified work, or did you just find it preferable to do everything yourself? Liam
