Do I need a Periodic Inspection Report?

Because whatever one's personal personal opinion of them might be, the law says they have to be involved with notifiable/controlled work, which includes most of what you've had done, not just the electrical work. You will need a completion certificate for the whole work if you want to...

Do I need a Periodic Inspection Report?

BAS - you dont honestly think you'll actually get a sensible answer to that, do you? My advice would be to not allow this ratings thing to become a fun new feature which a few immature people use to wind you up. If you keep responding in that way, that's exactly what it'll become, and there'll...

Cooker and induction hob on one circuit?

Now why can't you put your objections to downlights quite so diplomatically? ;) I (I suppose I should say we and include the wife who does most of the cooking) could never switch to induction for one reason - the only way to create the authentic wok flavour is with a traditional seasoned cast...

    My CFL Downlights, finished!!!

I see - so small torches are bad (even in a small room), but big torches are OK? My bathroom is 2.5x2.0 and I have 5 small torches each fitted with 120 degree beam angle 4W LED lamps. The brightness is very high - more than good enough. Any shadowing at the top of the walls (as shown...

    PIR failure

I thought this would get more discussion - folk on here love debating PIR codes :? :) . Maybe I was so right there's nothing more to be said :). Have you tried to get in touch with whoever did the PIR and find out why this arrangement was code 1'd?

really dumb question about an Sds drill.

Or find someone who will lend you a 230V SDS drill.

    PIR failure

I'm no spark, but can't immediately see the problem myself. If it's all one circuit on the same RCBO then it's not a borrowed neutral, is it? If, say, the circuit was topologically identical, but instead wired in singles, there'd be no talk of a phase and neutral coming from different 'cables'...

Old installation with lead sheathed cable

Never mind the picture - it's not exactly helpful  Your missus is spot on right (they always are, of course), and now is the best opportunity you will ever have to get it done. If it's all original, you probably have no earth to the lighting circuits and about 1 socket per room if...

No wonder many will do it without certification...

You dont, because I'm not, and I did. Notifiable of course, so it was one of the things on my building notice which they inspected.

    US to UK 'transformer'

Ah - they conveniently don't mention that in the Ebay ad, but find the same device for sale anywhere else and that is in big bold letters! I suspected as much (in fact I suspected less). I dare say there are suitable super-duper logic rice cookers available already in 230V from HK etc, but...

No wonder many will do it without certification...

Ah it's the fees. Yeah does seem a lot for just rubber stamping when you test and submit the EIC. Still, it's better than paying the same in fees, then paying more on top for them to test/to get a PIR done, right?:) Yep - I'm competent :)...

No wonder many will do it without certification...

?? I thought you went to geat lengths to convince them your education and professional experience made you competent enough to do the work, including testing, and issue your own EIC because that's what you wanted to do. Now you're berating them for accepting your argument?? Don't get it :?
