IP44/65 mains downlight to match standard?

??? You can get IP65 rated downlights for less than a tenner each from somewhere like TLC. It's hard to pay much less even for non-IP rated. I dont know your circumstances, but is that really way too expensive?

Twin no earth in my lighting circuit

What regs are you reading? Think of it like this: Outside a safe zone - cable must either be burried greater than 50mm or, if less than 50mm, must be be protected by one of the specified forms of mechanical protection. Inside a safezone - the same is essentially true, but you have the...

    Low cost downlight full installation

My 2p: Sounds like a standard two-storey house, in which case you dont need fire rated fittings at all. There is no economic solution to lighting an entire house with little spotlights! When downlights go out of fashion, or you realise they dont create particularly pleasant lighting, or...

Can you not get hold of 2007 paper answers from your college? That'll settle this! Or create a new argument about how the examination board is also wrong... :)

    (Blurred) Picture Of The Week

Ah I see. And the poblem with that is whilst the CPC is correctly sleeved red, the black core is missing its red sleeving. Other than that, no problems - nice work. Right?  Absolutely speechless! That is unbelieveable!

The tripple-MCB'd red-sleeved-CPC mystery cable that we've been talking about, probably.:)

wire from meter to consumer unit

Come on - you know what he means!:) The sort of RCD required to protect the OP's buried tails, a 30ma, would (arguably) not be allowed to protect a whole installation. A TT install, on the other hand, would (normally) have a 100ma time delay RCD which is allowed to protect a whole installation...

RCD's and RCBO's...Whats the difference you may ask?

Out of interest, was that OP true (in 2004, or even now) or a load of bollarks?

    (Blurred) Picture Of The Week

Crikey! I did consider that black being in the same cable too as RF pointed out, but thought my suggestion of twin red (with CPC cut or disappearing out of sight somewhere) was terrible enough and surely it can't be that bad! Thought it was too silly to even suggest. Can I get the prize anyway?

    (Blurred) Picture Of The Week

Hard to tell, but are the two reds on the two bottom left MCBs part of the same cable (i.e. some twin red). Two circuits in one cable? Surely not?

Re-wire required - DIY after going on a course?

You dont need any qualifications to DIY notifiable work, and you probably wont learn anything on the three-day-wonder course you can't get from reading a good book and the OSG (as a bare minimum), browsing posts and the wiki on here, some common sense, and hopefully your existing 'practical...
