    BS7671 2006 vs 2008

Yeah, but BAS, mikhail and riveralt stopped being interested in the original poster's concerns by about page 2 or 3 :)

    BS7671 2006 vs 2008

Hmmmmm - still not sure! The point I'm trying to make is that you should exhaust any potential painless win-win solutions before you start sending letters politely but firmly informing them that they are idiots who don't know how to do their job properly, and should do it this way instead...

    BS7671 2006 vs 2008

Never mind the squabbling - let them carry on :). I'm a mere DIYer and stand to be corrected on the below, but here goes... Hard wired smoke alarms - only a requirement on a new build if I recall correctly. But this is an area where some LABCs like to take their own interpretation and...

    BS7671 2006 vs 2008

If you think the installation does in fact comply with the 17th, which seems likely, then I'd try your luck first with resubmitting the certs as someone above suggested - 17th edition certs with 2008 written as the edition worked too, and a copy of the sparks quals. They're just ticking boxes...

    Downlighter/spots distances

Look - it's simple. Just tell her that with some decent fluorescent strip lights she'll be able to see much more easily when she's cooking your dinner. :)

    Downlighter/spots distances

Got two of those in my kitchen - they're brilliant. If you can believe it, I generally tend to focus on what I'm actually in the kitchen for, rather than looking up at the light fitting and lamenting that similar styles of fitting tend to be installed in offices. :) If you're prepared to spend...

    Low voltage light problem.

If you read the whole thread, he got it sorted. Well over a year ago. :)

    Antsy attitudes

LOL!! I was gonna give a thread asking for an end to pointless argumentativeness at least three pages until it became a thread mostly containing pointless argumentativeness! Got there in two - sigh...

    Bathroom lighting... recessed spotlights

I assume by 'engineeringly offensive' you're referring to your oft-made point that they aren't exactly the most elegant engineering solution to illuminating a room due to the high Watts required to do the job compared to other solutions (which nobody would dispute). But what on earth has that...

    Bathroom lighting... recessed spotlights

Oh for god's sake BAS! Look - here's a not-quite-finished bathroom... It is exclusively illuminated by 5 halogen downlights because that's what the mrs preferred. There are no bright spots of light on the floor at all. Apart from darker areas near the ceiling, the walls are uniformly...

    The Part P scam

BAS, if you think the LABC fees are so reasonable, why do you do notifiable work without notifying and paying the fees? :) Liam

Powering L.E.D. Wall Lights from the mains

If, as you think, the kit is desihned to be connected to a 230V lighting circuit, then there's no reason in theory they cant be plugged into a socket circuit with a plug. But you need to be sure - aren't there any manufacturers installation instructions? Just an input voltage rating for the...

I don't believe it. Cig lighter energy saver

Awesome! one for the home! :( Almost certainly a box-o-capacitor. 3 points for explaining why it appears to 'work' in the video

I don't believe it. Cig lighter energy saver

Wow!! They must all feed off each other's BS. If you can stand even looking at this guy's 'stick a capacitor in your car' advert for more than 10 seconds, you'll find this little gem... "3. If you do not have power steering you will know how the vehicle turns. Now after installing the vs39...

I don't believe it. Cig lighter energy saver

Good god! I guess you have to give credit where it's due - these people have pretty incredible imaginations to come up with this crap. Some rough calculations show me that with one of these, some magnets on my fuel lines, one of those brown's gas kits, a resistor, and an electric fan in my...

    no electric.

I should imagine that in the major disaster/zombie outbreak that causes a prolonged electrical blackout in this country, your gas supply stopping wont be far behind :). Better to stock up on fire wood, canned food and ammo. Liam

    Safe zones and skirtings

Doh! You mean I didn't have to leave all those little 1" gaps when I fitted the skirting after my rewire? :( Holmslaw's messing with us, right?

    Picture of the week!™

Don't know owt about three phase lectrics boards, but between the main switch and the MCBs, is that three nice shiny bits of metal, one for each phase, that one could probably poke with one's fingers, that you might think ought to have some sort of cover? Liam

    Mains Carbon Monoxide Detector

The kidde CO alarm I have, if interlinked with smoke/heat alarms, will tell you whether it's fire or CO when they go off.
