    Bell Box Resilience

I'm a broadband and IT engineer, business and residential.... I've never put an aerial up in my life, but I know how they work, I also support the BT Vision product, which uses the freeview system - in my old job I setup commercial sky systems alongside TV and video distribution I've put on...

    (Electrician's) Tools of choice

Snap On, if you've got the money to spend :) (not sure how many leccy type tools they make mind, tends to be mechanics stuff)

    Supplementary bond to junction box

Is it an electric heated towel rail? If so, why does it need supp. bonding? It's earthed isn't it?

Can I power heated mirror and light from same cable?

What zone is it in? How big is the cable? Is it rcd protected? Wouldn't it be better just to put in a suitable sized feed from the lighting circuit, than mess about with a big old cable?

    multi room sattelite

Surely if you tell them that you've lost your original viewing card, the old one will stop working when they send a code down to disable it - or it'll at least become unpaired with the plus box so you can't record anything but ftv. They don't need the phone line connected to disable a viewing...

    Cooker control MCB size

I'll get another 32 amp breaker then - the ring is the existing kitchen ring, which for some unknown reason has always had a 15 amp fuse - swapped all the breakers for like for like sizes but said fuse was looking a bit worse for wear, and was obviously inadequate for the load (dishwasher...

Belkin Surge Protector... changing plug to Euro plug

I'd just take a couple of double surface mounted boxes out there chap.

    Cooker control MCB size

For a CCU with a 3kW single fan oven and a socket outlet, is there any reason why a 16A breaker can't be used, instead of a 32 or a 20 - it's just that I could do with the current 32 for something else (the something else is a ring main in 2.5, so no issue there) - is there a minimum amount of...

Belkin Surge Protector... changing plug to Euro plug

Sounds like a good idea to me, lots of hifi people abroad actually go to the extent of fitting UK socket outlets in their houses, because the european plugs are so crap - the next best thing to this is to get it down to just one crap connection, rather than several.

    Windows Vista start-up time

In any windows operating system the correct places to manage startup programs are a combination of add/remove programs, the properties pages of the software that is starting up, the administrative console specifically (but not always) msconfig, the startup folder in the start menu, the...

    No earth to front plate?

My take on that was earth to the faceplate on sockets (as it's more important that the equipment gets an earth than the backbox, generally), and earth to the backbox on lightswitches for convenience / ease of fitting the wiring in / if someone wants to change back to plastic faceplates in the...

Back Box Size (but now about cable size)

One, single outlet, or one, double outlet?

    Bell Box Resilience

It (Redcare) does work properly, even when there's an engineer working on it who has disabled it properly, it still calls the police out!!

    Bell Box Resilience

It's not my system, I don't work for BT Retail or BT Wholesale, imho thank Ofcom for your woes - I also find it amusing that it doesn't work properly (that's why I posted about it in the first place...)

mondeo mk 3 2.0 noisy on tick over and low speed

Is the noise coming from the engine itself, or from elsewhere on the car? If the engine, do you have a stethoscope kicking about, or a piece of plastic pipe?

    screen cleaning/ cleaner

Rain X double pack, cleaner and rain repellent, works an absolute treat.

Belkin Surge Protector... changing plug to Euro plug

Why, are you going to be using it outside of the UK? I can't see a problem with it, but why are you doing it in the first place?

Daughter wants laptop but how to pick, headache

I wouldn't buy a gateway - maybe an acer, but you're better off with a Dell, HP or (having seen some of the new ones recently) a Toshiba. This is based on seeing 2 or 3 new or nearly new laptops of varying makes per day, and owning two HPs and a Dell. (my old tosh was a bit poo, but it was...
