    new computer set up

1GB ram works fine with Vista Home Premium (32 bit!), I had this in my personal laptop for a little while before I forked out for an upgrade to 2 gig. Readyboost doesn't make a lot of difference, if you read the technical articles it's primary function is to make programs open faster. The best...

I think you missed the point I was making about disabling the redcare properly, plod still turn up, despite the fact that I have specific authorisation from my boss to disable the redcare system, who, like me, works directly for British Telecom plc. - hence my amusement that I disable it...

How to read an .XML file

Or for certain other large companies that use the scheme (like BT for example) :D - always worth asking if it's a big firm with a corporate license.

    virus eliminator

The thing is Bob, if you're going to do that, you've probably got another pc or two anyway, maybe even a raid server with all your important stuff on, and know how to export your favourites and various other settings - might as well just reinstall from scratch every now and then. In my...

    earthing texecom dialler

As I said before, if the earth is only to protect the dialler from surges on the telephone circuit, you don't need it unless you are taking the phone feed straight of the a and b legs (which you shouldn't do!)

    Bell Box Resilience

Gotta be the best bet, or multiple active bellboxes, depends how much the alarm needs to be heard. In the best systems, there's often no need for it to be heard, as long as it goes off!

    Bell Box Resilience

When I get the automated message telling me that monitoring is disabled, that's when I stop being bothered - the system has told me I've done it right - it's possible that the alarm company are sending them instead, or calling someone on a list who is then calling them rather than popping to the...

    Bell Box Resilience

I do, I phone the BT Redcare number and use my EIN and password on the automated service - but plod still invariably turn up!!! (with a big grin when they see the van)

Blocking Peer to Peer via a router.

What ISP are you with? It might not be an issue if you're with the right ones! Be nice to get him to get broadband too, and then get a dual WAN router and join the two connections together - that way you can both use each others (faster in many circumstances) 8)

Try internet options, advanced, reset browser settings. If this doesn't work, you probably still have some spyware / virus left. Reboot in safe mode and run avg again, it'll find it and get rid with luck - also maybe run spybot or adaware.

    earthing texecom dialler

They want you to earth it to enable the lightning arrestor in the dialler to protect the dialler - as it's already (presumably) protected by something else, you don't need to worry about it.

Help setting up FTP access using a NAS, Router and Modem.

The router he's using doesn't have a built in DSL modem - hence connecting the ethernet WAN port to the lan port on the actual modem - this is normal.

"Fault" (trip) current in laymans terms / my little brain then 8) So it's just a simple resistance check (along with proper establishment of the value of Ia) to confirm that the supplementary bonding is adequate, provided it's there in the first place and said low resistance isn't just...

    earthing texecom dialler

And in the NTE5 backplate (or similar) - so if the alarm is being fitted after this master socket (hint, it's illegal to fit it before unless to a pair of terminals provided by BT Openreach for anything on the BT network, although seems to happen quite a lot anwyay with alarms) you don't need to...

    Bell Box Resilience

Just whallop the box with a big hammer, pull away from the wall and stick it in a five season sleeping bag! - just hope they don't have redcare (oh, hello officer) - I love redcare btw, especially when I get it disabled properly through BT and plod turn up anyway....

    help RCD

The moulded plug had broken up inside methinks, reconnected the earth, wasn't the exact same problem as I said, just the same fault condition on the appliance - or at least it it was the exact same wouldn't have noticed as no RCD on the circuit. In our case it only started happening the first...
