This Simple RCD Error Could Be Deadly!

The only thing I see wrong anywhere in this thread - othe than possibly Erics #4 - is if neutral is not provided to the RCD it will never trip.as the tripping solenoid relies on N & L1. I've always argued it should be between L1 & L2 Edit: Oops sorry wrong type of RCD selected for explanation...

Did this house fire REALLY start because of a turned off Air fryer OR faulty wiring?

I see some displaying time etc when not in use so it's true of those.

Electric heater plug just exploded - what would have caused that?

Let's face it: A majority (verging on most) 13A plugs and sockets are poorly made junk now.

Did this house fire REALLY start because of a turned off Air fryer OR faulty wiring?

How many times have we ignored the MIs to switch of at the wall or remove the plug? All of the air fryers instructions I've encountered (just 3) have included that instruction and all 3 of them are left powered... there's no helping some people.

Electric heater plug just exploded - what would have caused that?

Which I whole heartedly agree with. However the rules for immersion heater were it's own circuit so it was perfectly correct to run a 15A radial to a single BS546 which effectively prevented it being plugged into a different circuit. As it turned out that proved to have been a far better/safer...

    Replacing 2 gang light switch

There are loads of blue wires there too so I'll guess no problem to get a neutral.

They are built exactly as shown in the pics. EDIT and the Lidl chargers from 30 years ago use the same style of rectifier.

Selmar Turbo 8 battery charger help

These rectifiers are usually constructed with opposite pins AC but the markings do need to be checked. 'A' spec sheet for them confirms that but do try to check the device you have. The markings seem to be clear so the 2 AC pins need to be wired to the centre of both switches (via the...

Ring Final question - not DIY

It hasn't been done yet, he asked for info before going for the survey as I tend to make lots of notes and he had vague recollection. Unless major changes have taken place the power demand is fairly nominal. This is a significant engineering workshop where most work is on lathes, milling...

    I don't disagree with that.

loft light off last downlight control

I misunderstood your reply, doing what you have done and the proposed additional switch will stop them being left on by accident which otherwise does happen when the only switch for the loft light is in the loft

loft light off last downlight control

It is a common arrangement to to add an additional switch for the loft to to an existing light, that way the loft can't be accidentally left on for too long and certainly not without having the landing lights on. I added an indicator light in the ceiling near the hatch for a friend as their son...

loft light off last downlight control

But it is a very common arrangement to prevent it being left on for months on end. On of our local minor developers do that as standard.
