    Light switches wired wrongly

Quite honestly, if I understood your results I'd have an understanding. Do me a favour and let me know what happens when you try this: Close your left eye and align your finger with the distant object and observe what happens when you alternate your eyes. My finger jumps to the right. Then...

    Light switches wired wrongly

BUT... With both eyes open, if you chose the other finger/distant combination to cover the result of the test is exactly the same except it jumps the other way

The laws of physics explain that quite well and John always says they can't be broken!

    Light switches wired wrongly

The difference in strength between my eyes isn't significant but I do have a 30° astig which would require a much stronger starting lens to grind the compensation, I only use poundland glasses as like you I damage them, in fack now they are £1.50 or 3 for £5 I tend to buy 6 at a time and keep a...

    Light switches wired wrongly

In that case I call bullshit again as your goal posts have changed, or should I say double finger For the tests you describe it makes no difference whatsoever whether you focus on the near or distant object other than seeing the distant or near object double when both eyes are open.

    Light switches wired wrongly

Having had a lengthy discussion last night and posted my #209 I've read the whole thread again (just the eye test parts) and one of the things I had not so far mentioned is I am very aware of the difference between my eyes, both in terms of required prescription and brightness, as such I know I...

    Light switches wired wrongly

Isn't that the same as focussing on a different distance to your finger? I see 2 of course But I thought we'd basically rubbished it before as the stereoscopic/binocular vision we have makes it impossible to focus at 2 distances, and therefore see just one of each at those distances, at the...

    Light switches wired wrongly

My grandson came from school tonight talking about L/R dominance including the eye test, apparently the teacher spent ages trying to get them to see just one finger and not a single student could make it happen. Just one of the several scraps of paper we generated:

    Concealed joints again!

Tinned flex is a massive no no in loudspeaker cabinets screwed or sprung clips where the added vibration will turn those 'perfect' connexions to mush PDQ. Very different to untreated Cu

    Concealed joints again!

It feels like I should agree wholeheartedly but I have known the issue and on my work, I can only think the limited space in 5A JB's and the shape of the bends made it not so and later disturbance, maybe at the time other work is being performed, found it - possibly no fault actually existed (y)

wrong For exactly the same reason we get condensation inside conduit So so wrong

    Concealed joints again!

I tend to agree with this but will add that with many JB's it can be hard to tell iof the multiple wires are positioned nicely in the terminal, or if the wires are different sizes

changing to electric cooker, is my 1980 wiring okay?

I'm inclined to agree that expect it to be as safe as it was when installed and wonder if they simply diverted the ring circuit to be via the RCD (or something similar) in order that the additional electrical work complied with regs at the time. Of course the simple thing to do is see what goes...

    Concealed joints again!

Despite 'liking' your posts I have to say yes I have found a few loose connexions over the years but of course I know not if they have been due to 'becoming loose' or bad installation or disturbance.

changing to electric cooker, is my 1980 wiring okay?

If nothing has changed or deteriated there should not be a problem. However are you sure your fusebox is included on the RCD? What is the MCB in the white box with the RCD for? Can we have a wider picture showing the meter and the grey cables etc to the right of the fusebox.

    Concealed joints again!

I have never been able to comprehend why screwed joints are permitted in inaccessible resin joints but not in a JB under a floor, which is significantly more accessible.

Best way go link electric cables outside

Were they cut or is it foxes/squirrels?

    Isolator on extractor fan

I can only look at this from my experience in the controls industry, in situations where warm moving water is likely the air temp is commonly set at a minimum of 2 degrees higher than the water temp.

    Isolator on extractor fan

That assumes the air change is fast enough and adequate fresh air entering otherwise warm surfaces play an important role.
