    Antsy attitudes

To a pont, I agree, and I'm not singling out anyone in particular. However...I've not personally always been quite so polite on internet forums but, a while ago, I basically decided I'd reply in general only as I would face-to-face, regardless of how someone else behaves - that's kind of, ehh...

    Antsy attitudes

Not wishing to tread on anyone's toes, and I seldom post here even if I track it regularly, but this forum is probably one of the most aggresive of all that I follow...and I do follow about 20 or so, on various subjects. I guess some would argue that it's to do with the importance of the...

    UPS Recommendations and Questions...

I'm not totally convinced this belongs here, but then neither does it seem to totally fit on the other forums (mods: please move if appropriate). I'm looking for recommendations for a cheap UPS (up to £100) to cover me for power outages of at least 30 minutes - this is a personal rather than...

Removing earth from a laptop PSU - how dangerous?

Thanks for the info. Thing is...I'm now quite a few days since putting the MK filter socket in, and I've got to say that the background noise since then really isn't noticeable any longer. At least, not noticeable at the volumes I have my speakers. It certainly wasn't my intention to fit...

Removing earth from a laptop PSU - how dangerous?

...an old thread of mine, but I've just noticed something. The background noise has mostly gone. The only difference? Well, I fitted one of the filter sockets as "advertised" on this forum, and still available in my local B&Q: http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=180696...

Pull Switch for Ceiling fan please ?

If the whole fan is controlled by a wall-switch anyway, why not just connect the two switch wires together (for now).

On "swearing" and the automatic filter.

Here's one: http://www.definition-of.com/C**T ...actually quite interesting, unless it's nonsense of course; it's a "community" dictionary. Added Later Well...the dictionary mentioned at least exists :D : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Classical-Dictionary-Vulgar-Tongue/dp/1587982471

Removing earth from a laptop PSU - how dangerous?

Thanks, I'll have a butchers. There's one other thing I've realised that puts a spanner in the works (slightly) with an audio only solution... Without the earth connected to the laptop PSU, I also get a much cleaner video signal (it's a VGA KVM). Perhaps this doesn't arise with DVI KVM's...

Removing earth from a laptop PSU - how dangerous?

Ahh, OK, thanks. So...am I safe-ish i assuming that a true UPS will solve my mains interference issues? Are most UPS that are described as UPS actually true UPS, if you get what I mean :D ?

Removing earth from a laptop PSU - how dangerous?

In reply to the above... UPS No UPS - but that's a good point, as it's something I had been considering in the past but then totally forgot about. Not having really thought about how UPS' work in general, I guess you're effectively working off the charged battery all the time, but only...

Removing earth from a laptop PSU - how dangerous?

I work quite a bit from home, and have recently started using a new KVM to use the same monitor, keyboard mouse, speakers and microphone with my home PC and my work laptop, switching between them as need be. I say "new KVM" as I had been using one without audio for years, but needed mic and...

Advice sought on powerful yet attractive kitchen extractor

mmm... So, in an attempt to respond to the original post, I did come across these a while ago when I was looking for a bathroom extractor: http://www.epicair.co.uk/kitchen-extractor-fans-c-32.html ...although some of these are DAZB's Plumbworld link in the first page too. Can't imagine...

    satellite cable

If I were you I'd consider trying out a diplexer first and use your existing TV feed to carry your new satellite feed too i.e. something like this in your loft (or wherever): http://www.tvaerials.com/product.aspx?productid=1012 ...and then either the same TV/STB side, or an appropriate...

    Joining Cat 5 cable

Same thing from here: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2657 ...but with free delivery, so about 70p delivered if you don't mind waiting the few days delivery from Hong Kong. In my experience there's no real loss in reliability/quality over a gigabit cat5e-based network when you...

    ventilating a server cupboard

A general point on noise... With a decent PSU containing a large fan you may not need to have to worry about noise at all. I recently bought one of these: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-034-EN ...and it really is near silent. In addition, the large fan does draw...

TV/Sat/FM Triplexers - noticeable negative impact on signal?

Well...it's taken me a while to get round to install this, and now I have some issues. In a nut-shell, I have shot-gun cable running from two outputs on my satellite dishes quad LNB. One run of this goes direct to an F-connector socket on a wall-plate in my lounge. The other goes into a...

Standalone extractor fan humidistats - do they exist?

I'm considering shifting from my bathroom extractor fan (inline duct) being activated via a double-pole pull switch to a ceiling mounted humidistat. Do standalone ceiling mounted humidistat's exist for this sort of thing, or are they all integrated/supplied with fans? I've Googled about and...
