Push fit and solvent weld pipes are made of different materials. Being a different size prevents you from using solvent cement on push fit pipe!!

You may have more success in resetting / re-pairing the 'stat to the receiver if they are close together. Take the 'stat off the wall and place fairly close to receiver then reset. Worth a try :D

I can't see any normal plasterboard fixings working without coming through the wall to the next room! Is it an option to put lengths of 3x1 timber vertically on the wall in the adjoining room, then screw screws through the plasterboard into the timber from the other side, cutting / filing off...

Just remove the bungs! -as simple as that. Close the drain off valve first of course... sorry - that's obvious. I always remove the bung in the tank first, then the one on the vent, so that water gets drawn in not air down the vent pipe. Hope all goes well!
