Hi Merc, when you say you re-open them do you mean fully?? what i tend to do is close them fully and then re-open them about a three quarter turn, thereby, slowing the pumping process through the system and allowing the rads to heat before the hot water has sloshed straight through...

sounds as though it could be a problem with your frost sat (if fitted) when the temp drops below a pre-set temp then the boiler will fire up to protect pipework and boiler etc, only a suggestion
