    cheap insulation for shed?

Well there's a right way and a cheap way, As you'll be knocking it down shortly I'd go cheap(!) What do you already have? If you have a load of bubblewrap then go for it. General rule is that solid insulation or plasticy stuff (bubblewrap) should have airgaps etc for condensation. If...

Listed Building Consent refused - appeal or give up?

Sorry for going off topic, but got a thread on this at all? I'd be quite interested in a story and pictures, always like the idea of doing something similar. As for OP I'd definately appeal, if you do it yourself whats to lose? Good luck.

Connecting my home to an external building

Will it be enclosed or just a covered walkway? If it is a 'porch/conservatory' smaller than a certain size, with no heating (or independent heating) and the existing external doors in place then you should be ok without BR and it may be PP (glazing and electrics should still apply). The...

Getting gas installed to our house - National Grid

Opening in Side wall of 1930 House. Rsj size.

Well if your taking out an entire wall yes you'll want a whacking great steel and sturdier columns either side. It's not worth ****ing about with this as DIY, you want correctly certified calculations and an I beam, factor a grand for your opening.

Getting gas installed to our house - National Grid

As for 0870 I always try to.find a local rate number, they usually have a main desk or a "calling from overseas?" number, these will be normal price. I use National Grid move my gas mains, they were a nightmare to deal with and yes it's insane that you have to pay in advance for the whole job...

Lean to with corrugated plastic roof

Everyone makes mistakes, it's easily done, £600 is a whopper though... If you bought an item without seeing it first (i.e. You ordered off the web) you have the right to return it within 14days. Alternatively workout a minimally intrusive way of making support on the fence side, as...

Opening in Side wall of 1930 House. Rsj size.

As above a couple of concrete lintels will do it, they're about a tenner each and they have them in wicks etc. They're only really there o support a triangle of bricks in those solid old walls. I'm assuming it is a single door opening? Any pictures? (strictly speaking you also should...

Lean to with corrugated plastic roof

If you look on the fitting instructions on the link you supplied, you will see the gutter side sits on a row of windows. By self supporting I beleive it means no additional raftering, trusses, purlins etc. If you just attached that to the wall alone it would rip the bricks out, if not...

    University Fees..

As a mature student, working towards my mechanical engineering degree, whilst working full-time as an aerospace manufacturing engineer; I think the new fees system is *******s. Mostly because uni's fail to offer value. £2500 under the old system was good value. £6500 under the new system...
