loft boards parallel to cross battens?

They are 18mm thick boards. At the moment the joins along the long edges meet along cross battens, length ways. If I put the cross battens closer together, the boards would be wider than the gap, so would you put extra battens in for where the joins meet as well? Thanks.

loft boards parallel to cross battens?

Hello, Been having a search on here but I'm not sure about this and worried I've boarded our loft incorrectly. I used 3x1 cross battens, at right angles to joists I spaced the cross battens at 2ft centre to centre and laid 8ftx2ft chipboard along them so that the long (8ft) edge was along...

Drill pilot holes for screwing down cross battens?

Hi everyone, I'm never sure whether I should drill pilot holes before putting screws into wood or if it's ok to just screw straight into the wood. I'm putting cross battens in our loft and then chip board. If I do need to drill first should the drill bit be just a bit smaller than the...

Advice with plastering (old and new sockets)

Hi Roughcaster, That's great! thanks a lot for your informative response, I'll give it a go. May end up with more plaster on myself than on the wall though :D

Advice with plastering (old and new sockets)

Hi, just wondering if I could get some advise on plastering/filling over wires (see pic below)? On the left is where an old socket has been covered with a piece of wood (used to be behind some fitted wardrobes that we just took out) and as you can see the cable is still there. On the...

    BG blag

It's so depressing that you think that. But I'm just glad that there are loads of other people on this forum that DO know what business ethics and morals are. Yes, I did. I went somewhere else. Then I came on this forum to share the experience. That's what forums are for honey :)

    BG blag

I totally agree with you. My comment wasn't meant to sound like a dig at BG engineers as I have never come into contact with any, so apologies to any out there if they thought it was. My dig is specifically at the BG guy I spoke to. But also the big cheeses at the top who should be making...

    BG blag

Are you kidding?! He was trying to get me to agree to pay a deposit without even knowing the full cost of it yet! I just wanted a new boiler! Is that the 'personal agenda'? And of course customers are going to judge businesses, good businesses will listen to them as that's where the money...

    BG blag

Just over a week ago our combi boiler started leaking so I switched it off. Knowing nothing about boilers I rang BG as they're a big company and I thought I might be able to trust them. I asked for a quote to replace the boiler as it kept conking out last winter anyway. Within 48 hours a...

Fitting an inset kitchen sink, use sealant?

Hi, I'm going to fit an inset stainless steel kitchen sink. I have the clamps to clamp it to the work top but is there some kind of sealant I should be using around the edge to stop water getting through? If so does it go around the edge after clamping it down, or should it go underneath...
