Flakey Paint/Plaster Around Window Area - What to Do?

We are not planning on having the room replastered any longer, sorry should have said. I believe that we've stripped back to plaster, its gray and has a smooth surface (in the places we haven't damaged from the stripping). We are planning to smooth this over with some Polycell Smooth Over...

Flakey Paint/Plaster Around Window Area - What to Do?

Apologies for raising this rather old post from the dead but I've finally pulled my finger out and are in the process of sorting this myself. We have stripped back all of paint (loose or not) to bare plaster for the whole of the problem window area. I would now like to use smooth over to get...

Flakey Paint/Plaster Around Window Area - What to Do?

Thanks very much for the reply and your suggestions. I think I might get some quotes and I may even get the whole room re-plastered since the finish is particular poor in the room. Can anyone give me a ball park figure at how much I'd be looking at. Its a pretty much standard double sized room...

Flakey Paint/Plaster Around Window Area - What to Do?

Hi, I would really appreciated some advice from you experts... Around the window area in our master bedroom the paint (might be plaster not 100% sure) is flaking away all over the place. I'd like to fix the problem and re-paint the room but I'm not sure of the best way to go about it. I've...

Quick Question: Where to drain off central heating?....

Thats working so just draining off the last of the water now. The water is absolutely filthy so I recon it'll need a good flush through. Please can someone tell me if I can drop the stop cock so water starts entering the system with the radiator bleed valves still open??? (The idea being...

Quick Question: Where to drain off central heating?....

Thanks for the reply, I've drained off from the boiler outlet and its pretty much finished now but opening up the bleed valves on the radiators down stairs and water still spurts out. I will try as you've suggested closing off the boiler outlet and then attaching pipe to the lowest point and...

Quick Question: Where to drain off central heating?....

Hi, I am planning on draining and refilling my CH today since I added some desludger solution a few weeks back. There are two drain off points in my house, one is above the boiler (high up in the kitchen downstairs) and the other below the downstairs hall raditor (very low to the ground)...

2 Upstairs Radiators Not Working.... :-( sooooo cold!!!!

YAY! Having taken the top off the TRV4, the pin is up and water is flowing into the radiator! Result! When I put the top back on however the valve gets shut again!? I've just try to push down the pin with the coin like you suggested. It was quite stiff and I needed to apply quite a bit of...

2 Upstairs Radiators Not Working.... :-( sooooo cold!!!!

Nothing there's no flow to the non-working radiators at all and the pipes remain cold.

2 Upstairs Radiators Not Working.... :-( sooooo cold!!!!

This TRV 4 problem (which from searching on the web appears to be quite common) sounds like the culprit. Both the non-working radiators have a TRV 4. Apparently the pin gets stuck inside over the summer when not in use which is exactly what happened to the radiator in the main bedroom. I'll...

2 Upstairs Radiators Not Working.... :-( sooooo cold!!!!

But I haven't adjusted the valves on the non-working radiators so presumably if they'd seized they would have seized open??

2 Upstairs Radiators Not Working.... :-( sooooo cold!!!!

Hang on I lied... some of the raditors have a hand wheel (a drayton TRV 4) so the valves aren't the same at either end. The radiator in the bedroom has one of these.

2 Upstairs Radiators Not Working.... :-( sooooo cold!!!!

The valves at either end of all the radiators are exactly the same (I've never known which one is in and out!) I assume you say "turn the same amount" to ensure the radiator stays balanced? I keep reading about "balance" but when I switched off the radiators before I just turned one of...

2 Upstairs Radiators Not Working.... :-( sooooo cold!!!!

Whats a TRV, some type of valve I assume? EDIT: Worked out its a Thermostatic Radiator Valve. No I don't have these, all radiators are just manual handwheel and lockshied valve. Yes its an open vented system. Thanks

2 Upstairs Radiators Not Working.... :-( sooooo cold!!!!

Hi Breesey, I really appreciate your prompt reply... When I bled the radiators (and I have just done them all again now) water does come out of all of them. I don't know if the valves are working since I haven't adjusted them at all. How can I work out if they are working? The radiator in...
