Bang and hot water all over the place!! Help!

I have drained down the system again. While the rads are empty, is it possible to use the combi boiler to heat hot water for washing without affecting the central heating side of things?

Bang and hot water all over the place!! Help!

Maybe I should give the nuts which I haven't undone today a tweak all round the house in case this happens somewhere else too. I did struggle with this particular pipe to get it back on the rad, maybe that's what upset it.

Bang and hot water all over the place!! Help!

Olive looks ragged and old I think it has been badly fitted a few years ago.

Bang and hot water all over the place!! Help!

I fitted TRV's throughout the house today. Suddenly tonight there was a bang and one of the valves shot off one of the rads spraying hot water all over the bathroom. This was an olive type joint on the return valve which I had not undone today. Either the work had disturbed it or I have fitted...

    Thermostatic rad valves

Going well so far. Fitted three downstairs and four upstairs. Couple of leaks which I had to drain down for and start again. One nut was seized up so bad I ended up placing the TRV at the "out " end but had a chance to flush all the rads out myself outdoors which was good. Some were in tight...

Radiator under window - heat goes behind curtains.

Have you ever posted your own answer to your own question? Is this the first sign of madness - again? :)

Radiator under window - heat goes behind curtains.

I have just read a similar post on here and have read that the shelf idea is sound. However, I am wondering about going one step further and spacing the radiator away from the wall more and adding insulation to the wall. Can anyone see an problems with this? What if I went and added a wall...

Radiator under window - heat goes behind curtains.

In two of our rooms the radiator is under the window and the hot air goes up between the curtain and the window. We have uninsulated cavity walls but do have double glazing. I have heard you need the rads under the windows to circulate the air but can you add a shelf above the rad to direct the...

    Thermostatic rad valves

Thanks for the tip but won't the rads start to rust immediately if I don't put inhibitor in right away?

Fitting a TRV where there's a radiator case fitted.

The other problem I have is that my daughter pushes her bed up against one of the rads with a TRV fitted. Presumably this stops it being able to work but I don't think it can harm the bed???

Fitting a TRV where there's a radiator case fitted.

One of our radiators has a case fitted around it. I was told you can get TRVs with external thermostats for these - any advice before I go looking for one?

    Thermostatic rad valves

Nice one Statia - thanks for the reply, I have just started on here -it's a great idea isn't it! I was worried that clean water flushed through might speed up corrosion or something.

Oops - Help - Oh dear!

I have drained the central heating today to fit Thermostatic valves. I have just looked under the boiler and water is seeping out from one of the pipe joints. It looks like it's been doing it for years as there is a green all the way down the pipe. So I looked at the gauge on the boiler which...

    Thermostatic rad valves

I've taken a couple of days off to do some jobs. One is to replace the radiator valves with thermostatic ones. Two questions; 1. Is it a good idea to take the radiators outdoors and flush them out with a hose. 2. We have a room thermostat on the stairs, should I disable it somehow and if so how...

Combination boiler in a four bedroom busy house.

Thanks for that, if I turn on a hot tap and then cold tap on the same basin, the hot tap slows down and goes cold. How do I test the water pressure?

    Kitchen doors disaster

Another tip is to use a fine colour pencil or even a fine craft paint brush to "draw" the grain pattern on top of the filler. If a grain line runs across the hole and you make it a continous line instead of stopping at the hole then starting again, most people won't spot it.
