Sorry, no idea, this is the first I've heard about it. A quick search shows a lot of references to it, but no verdict. I see some references to fires related to these batteries as well.

12v or 230v Power to a water valve

As Mike said above, a valve designed for 230V is perfectly fine so long as you install everything properly. There are numerous appliances around your home which have water in similar proximity to 230V - Kettles, immersion heater, washing machine, an instant electric shower if you have one...

Fine. As the European Parliament I'll suggest that the Commission proposes legislation on which I can vote saying that JohnD must pay me a million dollars. Are you obliged to put that proposal in front of Parliament?

Except for removing the whole extra layer of expensive EU bureaucracy from its administration.

Yes. The U.K. & Ireland are the only two countries which zero-rate most foods, and as discussed in one of the numerous other EU threads recently, the EU has been claiming that this is "unfair" for years.

Come on now, it's easy enough to accidentally mess up a quote when editing a post, especially with multiple quotes, quotes within quotes etc. Are you really trying to use a small slip-up like that to try and discredit the content of the post? Look at the graph - There are expected dips...

As the U.K. pays more into the EU then it gets back, that means that in effect the subsidy is originating from the U.K. in the first place.

And you think that among all the "remainers" there aren't some breaking rules? "in" or "out," Labour or Conservative, male or female - There are always some who break the rules.

    When considering in or out:

Yes, the European Parliament votes on issues, but it's the Commission which has to put proposed legislation to parliament. You pointed out that the European Parliament may now "suggest" legislation to the Commission, but when asked for a citation indicating that the Commission must honor such...

Many of those older people will now be of an age when at the time they were earning their degrees many of the British universities were already very much swinging to the left of the political spectrum in their general outlook, so it's probably more likely a consequence of these people being more...

12v or 230v Power to a water valve

In that case, either type is fine - Whichever best fits in with your existing or planned control wiring.

    Scariest Post/ Thread?

There are some thermistors which are basically just small lamps. They were used in the regulators of GPO/BT 700-type telephones, for example.

I've never paid that much for a whole car! My wife had a leased Toyota Prius for a while through her work to see her through the move up to this part of the state just before I arrived (gone now thankfully - I drove it a few times and found it horrible). I've seen battery replacements...

    Scariest Post/ Thread?

One part of that reminds me of an argument I had with a supposedly "fully qualified" electrician elsewhere some years ago who seemed to think that adding an earth rod to a TN-C-S system converted it into some sort of semi-TT system and was dangerous.

    Code 2 or 3

I wouldn't go as far as to say it requires improvement, since that would suggest that there's something which is a problem which should be addressed. As the C3 says, it's just recommend improvement.

No markings on the valve itself which give an idea?

    Spur on ring main.

15A was the maximum protection permitted for radials feeding 5A sockets. And for years, the regs. specified an assumed demand of 5A on a 5A socket, thereby permitting only three 5A sockets on a 15A circuit, although in practice many more were often installed. But both then and now, if you...
