    When considering in or out:

And how does that prevent some of them from being in favor of an all-controlling European superstate?

Running an extra neutral core to a light switch

Not at all. Looping power through the switch and just having a single cable up to the light is common enough, for the reasons you mentioned, but you'll find plenty of loop-in wiring at the light with a single switch drop cable as well, depending upon physical layout and circuit arrangements...

    When considering in or out:

In the basic sense, of course. As far as U.K. law is concerned, the country is in the EU because of the 1972 Act which took the U.K. into the then-EEC and the various legislation which has followed over the years. Repeal that legislation, and as far as U.K. law is concerned, the country is...

If you don't want to put an mcb/RCBO in a particular slot in a CU...

Can't disagree with you on that one.

    When considering in or out:

What is the project being run by the "inists" suggesting huge loss of trade, massive job losses, and an economic disaster following withdrawal?

    When considering in or out:

All three. Economic freedom - The ability for the U.K. government to make monetary decisions based upon what is best for the U.K., not what the EU considers to be best for the EU as a whole, especially when the EU is trying to integrate very disparate economies. Look at the fiasco of Greece...

    When considering in or out:

While some people are so dedicated to what they see as some sort of ideological goal of a giant European superstate that they're willing to throw away freedom in seeking to reach that goal.

    BT EO Lines

No doubt DACS will disappear eventually as FTTC (and FTTH) roll out more widely and plant is upgraded, but for the moment in many areas the shortage of pairs means that DACS for compatible lines (no ADSL, RedCare etc.) will likely continue for a while. Ah, so it's not just two pairs on the pole...

    When considering in or out:

I would submit that in the long term, remaining within the EU is far more likely to end in disaster than withdrawing. The signs are all there.

Does it? And what exact do you mean by "develop and progress" it?

    When considering in or out:

I'm not sure it's a leap into the darkness, except for those youngest voters who've known nothing but an EU-dominated U.K. and who've been bamboozled by the pro-EU side into believing their forecasts of doom and disaster if the U.K. withdraws (which I really don't think all of them believe...

    Neighbour trips my RCD?

Are you sure it's a modern RCD and not an older voltage-operated ELCB?

Running an extra neutral core to a light switch

Somewhat off the practical subject of getting an extra wire to a switch location, but with the increasing use of "exotic" light switches, over here the NEC now requires that a neutral be provided in every switch box for new work.

If you don't want to put an mcb/RCBO in a particular slot in a CU...

Yes, that's fair enough, but a lot of people don't. I was just saying that a spare MCB or fuse carrier would be preferable to one of those clip-in blanks which "clips out" just as easily, if not more so, than it went in.

If you don't want to put an mcb/RCBO in a particular slot in a CU...

Or using blanks which fall out so easily that it might just as well be left open.

    BT EO Lines

Thanks for the clarification. No offense intended about asking if you were sure it's really a bonded service, but just wanted to be sure, as some people aren't aware that just installing a second DSL connection and distributing traffic across multiple IP addresses isn't the same thing. If...

    When considering in or out:

And if they don't get the "correct" result, I have absolutely no doubt they'll try to find every way to do so. Expect daily reports of how they've been engaged in furious debate and the EU has finally made some huge concessions, so that "the situation has now changed so much as to make the...

    When considering in or out:

No, my one and only entry into Spain was a direct flight from the U.K., somewhere back around 1987 or 1988 - Not long after Spain joined the EC. Multiple trips to the U.S. in the earlier 1990's, the last re-entry from there being 1996, plus the trip to France in 1998. I think it was one of...

If you don't want to put an mcb/RCBO in a particular slot in a CU...

Why would somebody assume that if the breaker is clearly marked "Spare," "Not in use," or something similar?

If you don't want to put an mcb/RCBO in a particular slot in a CU...

I don't see a problem with it at all. Just mark it as spare/not in use/whatever so that it's clear without removing the cover that it's spare.
