    Too hot...

When using a heat pump for heating you can see efficiency's up to 500%. It seems impossible but it's not and no, you're not getting something for nothing and we haven;t discovered perpetual motion either! When using a heat pump the electrical energy is used to remove heat from the air outside...

    Too hot...

The main reason for automotive aircon losing the gas is via the shaft seal on the compressor, not the pipework. Home / Office aircon compressors are totally sealed i.e. the motor and compressor are inside a metal case that is pressurised with the refrigerant. To thos who claim aircon is...

    HD TV

If you compare HD and normal side by side HD is obviously better BUT, do you watch the quality of the broadcast or the content? I'd much rather spend my money on better equipment and leave HD until everything is settled and standardised. Prices will come down dramatically too as more and more HD...

    Physics Puzzle

It would fly completely as normal provided the wheels / bearings / tyres could stand going twice the speed of a normal takeoff. The aircraft relies on thrust from it's engines to get it airborne, no drive being given to the wheels. JB

I have had aircon everywhere for the last 15 years. My conservatory (12m x 7m) has 15Kw of aircon and can reduce th 50 deg C (Yesterday) down to a dry 19 deg C in about 20 minutes. All other rooms 4 bedrooms plus granny flat have 12,000 btu and living room & Kitchen 15,000btu. Even my shed /...

    Ford Focus Air Con

It's possible that the compressor seized (the screech would be the fan belt slipping). It's possible that during seizing it knocked a hole in the case or the shaft seal also failed and the hissing would be the gas escaping. DON'T GO TO A CAR DEALER, go to either an aircon specialist or a...

    extension build - utility meters

Hi, Just had to do the same myself, moved less than 2 metres, total cost for gas and leccy? just over £1000. If you have to move more than 2 metres the costs increase dramatically and they don'y reconnect your internal gas / leccy cables without increasing the charge even further. Regards - John

    Air conditioning piping

Many systems now come pre-gassed and seem to work ok, I agree that vacuuming out the air is best but you can get away OK with pre-gassed systems. Regards - JB

Dimmer switch prevents extractor fan timer from working?

You could add a relay with a 240v coil. Connect the coil to the lights, connect the contact from a live source to feed the fan and that should work. If you can, get a relay with a large voltage range to take into account when the load i.e. the lights are dimmed. Regards - JB

I put Petrol in a diesel

Just fill up with Diesel and don't worry about it, it will be fine. Back in the 70's it was the recommended practice to put a gallon of petrol into a tank of diesel to stop it waxing at low temps. Regards - JB

    Car engine cutting out...

I'm not familiar with the Pug 106 layout but assuming you can find the air intake (a pipe where the engine inhales) we should be able to sort this. Follow the air intake, it should go to a bigish box which will be the air cleaner and then onto a metal chunk with a cable from the accelerator (get...

    Underfloor heating for conservatory

Electric heating is more expensive to run than wet system. Electric is easier to install than a wet system. BUT I installed a polypipe wet system in my huge conservatory and it's brilliant, I can use the room all the year round - aircon in the summer, underfloor in the winter etc. With...

Any ideas why my shower pump went a bit mental??

Very likely air in the system - the pump runs the air gets compressed, eventually it can go no further. The water flow stops, the pump switches off and the water goes back to the tank and the whole process is repeated. Try running the pump and the shower with the shower head removed to get loads...

    Car engine cutting out...

I would have thought the 106 would be fuel injected? Get a can of carb cleaner (aerosol) and clean the idle speed control valve, that normall solves idle problems on injected engines. Regards - JB
