    Primer blistering

@michealangelo it turned out I had distemper ceilings. I ended up having to scrape everything off, Gardz and then paint. Absolutely no issues after that. The walls weren’t too bad, I had a few spots that peeled which definitely could have been down to my primer not drying. I patched those areas...

Self levelling compound has gone wrong

We’re putting down some click LVT. I’ve thought some more about what happened and I think the issue is we spent too long mixing so the compound was already starting to go off when I poured it. You get 20-30 mins working time and we probably spent 10 minutes mixing. I’ve bought a proper paddle...

Self levelling compound has gone wrong

Hi all, I overboarded my timber floor with 6mm ply last weekend, primed and poured some self leveller yesterday. What I’ve ended up with is worse than I had before, with a dip of probably 4mm in the middle of the room. This happens to be the point at which the 2 batches I mixed meet, though I...

    Expanding foam around perimeter?

@dazlight i work in metric…but did every 150mm, starting 15mm in from the edge

    Expanding foam around perimeter?

Thanks for that @drives . I ended up not putting anything in, but I'm going to be pouring some self leveller now so I'll be shooting some low expansion foam in anyway to create a dam. I'll cut it flush once it's cured so that should do the job. As you said, I got through just over 400 screws...

    Expanding foam around perimeter?

It does set pretty hard, maybe it’s soft enough to allow expansion still?

    Expanding foam around perimeter?

Hi all, in need of some advice! I’ve taken up the old carpet and will be laying LVT after I’ve overboarded with some ply. My question is around what I should be doing around the edges of the floorboards where there’s a gap to the wall? When I removed the old skirting there was some sort of...

    No mist coat...what to do

Interesting, I was thinking bullseye 123 might be the one! So many of the Zinsser products seem to do the same thing? Honestly wayners this isn’t going to be our forever home, at the moment the priority is just to start making progress with the decorating to keep the other half happy!

    No mist coat...what to do

Hi all, You may have seen my recent posts around suspected lack of mist coat which turned out to be distemper ceilings. However, I do believe the previous owners didn't put a mist coat on when they had the walls skimmed. There's peeling paint in a few places already, and fresh paint I've...

    Blistering paint (Ed.)

Hopefully final update. Gardz went on Wednesday eve. Gave it 2 coats of pure brilliant white yesterday and a final one this morning. All looking good, no peeling or bubbling. Hell of a lot of effort but I think I'd have been playing whackamole constantly letting it peel, using peelstop, filling...

    Blistering paint (Ed.)

Just an update in case anyone ends up here in future. Getting there now, I’ve got any visible yellow spots off, ceiling has now been filled and sanded. Tomorrow I’ll give it a wipe down then finally get some Gardz on. As far as getting the distemper off goes, I found the scraper was the best...

    Blistering paint (Ed.)

The tape was what got me going right back to the plaster but we’ve had a nightmare with peeling back to old layers of paint which I suppose probably was the same cause. Long hard day scraping and still not done, putting up a bit of a fight in some areas. A couple of questions from me if anyone...

    Blistering paint (Ed.)

First coat of primer went on no bother. Second coat the next day I had a few issues but that was on the walls which have been skimmed, so nothing to do with distemper. Went on the ceiling okay. Next day I did the ceiling top coat where I did get bubbles, but they then disappeared as it dried...

    Blistering paint (Ed.)

I used a B&q good home one for walls and ceilings. Supposedly fine for previously painted surfaces. I’ve given up trying to figure out how they managed it now. On the next room I’ll definitely fork out for a decent primer like bullseye 123

    Blistering paint (Ed.)

Issue is I’ve got multiple players of paint previous owners have put on. I’ve only discovered it in this room after painting myself and having it peel

    Blistering paint (Ed.)

If I’ve got to do this in every room definitely worth investing. On that note, any smart ideas on how I can figure out if I’ve got distemper ceilings without painting them and waiting for it to fall off?

    Blistering paint (Ed.)

Thanks for your posts everyone. I’ve got the scraper wayners recommended and I’ve got my work cut out for me scraping today. I’ll have earned my trip to the local this evening

    Blistering paint (Ed.)

Good to know. Have read a few options such as sanding, using vinegar, magic erasers, hot water. I’ll try a few and see what works, luckily the majority is just coming off as I’m scraping

    Blistering paint (Ed.)

The house is about 100 years old, maybe slightly under. All surfaces were sanded and sugar soaped. We didn’t apply a mist coat as we didn’t have any plastering done on the ceiling, but we put 2 coats of very cheap primer on the whole room
