    consumer unit woes

The 15 amp circuit could be a redundant immersion water heater due to the fitting of a gas combi boiler. Changing the fuse box is not a diy job , not difficult but requires knowledge of the circuit loadings and capacities of cables in relation to the new mcb's that will be fitted. Testing...

Telling people about their bad electrical work you see...

If you were not to comment on a dangerous situation you see a friend in , I think you would fail in your duty if you did not comment on it. On the other hand if it is just a bit rough you may offend them. Dangerous tell them every time.

    LIMs/Schedules of Inspections

I agree with you , if you cant inspect or test any aspect of a PIR It has to be Lim , you cant just tick the box because it is there. There is a statement on the model IET form that says to the effect that wiring contained in the fabric of the building ,concealed within trunking, in roofs and...

    pat check box

I've got exactly the same kit as you have, you can easily check your ethos against your existing testers or vice versa ;IE IR and continuity, the ethos also does efli and rcd tests so if you are getting comparable readings all is well .

    New Consumer Unit

As Sparkwright has said discuss it with your spark for how many ways you need. seems to me if the board is not crammed and you are having only one addition with no future additions planned or foreseen then a ten way dual rcd wlll be adequate. It may be that your spark may advise a few RCBO's to...

    New Consumer Unit

That would depend on what you can see your future needs may be, say a new extension or a conservatory -and how much of the capacity of the new board you have used up. Ten way is usually adequate for an average house of three bedrooms, depends entirely on you though.

    pat check box

It's odds on Seaward will have a manual for your tester , if not they will instruct you in it's use, probably very similar to the one in the link. Have you a visual link to your tester, it wont be difficult to use , perhaps someone will be able to help if you can show it.

5 pumps in six months looks to me they are just fetching the old ones back with a lick of paint. There's a root source here by the look of it, this shouldn't happen.

What is your voltage between L+N at the main switch . You need to get this tested without gear you will get nowhere. Is what you are using to test ok? It should hold if the rcd is OK on one circuit as you have done . Get it tested , only answer.

    Strange Fault

That must be a TT system then. It is very rare that you will get disconnection times on a TT system You will almost certainly need another rcd on the unprotected side of the board. You must get this checked and addressed.

    Strange Fault

Thats a faulty circuit then . Wire the rcd as a radial with a single piece of cable if this holds and allows power consumption your rcd is OK. Are the tails and connections that are left tight. Is your test cable part of the ring?
