Thanks, have asked installer what he thinks

    Plaster kitchen ceiling or overboard?

Thanks. Had a plasterer around and he is saying not to overboard as not needed, as the ceiling is in good condition. Just needs a skim. He reckoned there is negligible improvement in firerating with overboarding and it won't cut down on noise transfer either once the 15 down lights are in.

    Casement is bowed

Oh wow, really? Didn't realise. Hardly fit for purpose if they can't take a bit of sun in the UK! This window is actually a shaded area though, west facing but a driveway so never gets direct sunlight. Could this be caused by poor fitment? The installer had to fit bigger hinges iirc.

    Casement is bowed

Hi I just noticed that a casement which is approx 1m x 20cm is bowed in the middle. This window was fitted last year, and we had the installer back due to a problem with the hinge. How big of a deal is the casement being bowed, is it worth getting them back? Thanks

    Considering CU update

Thanks, makes sense. I guess beyond long term support there is probably little to distinguish between CU's purchased at the regular places like screwfix and so on. I won't be fitting it myself, so as a consumer, as long as it does what its supposed to do... i shouldn't need to care too much what...

Yikes. Little over budget, think i'll leave the electrician to fit his preferred brand. Thanks!

Well well, looks like 6mm² cable after all?

    Considering CU update

Thanks. Does cable length factor into that? Its (very approx) 25m long. It does not go through insulation for the majority of the run, just perhaps 2 metres or so of 100mm rockwool type stuff. I'll power off the circuit this evening and pop the cover off the isolator and take a look to see if...

Not according to the 3 sparks I've had in. I can double check with them. 9kw hob, and 3kw oven.

    Considering CU update

Yeah, sorry. So there is a 32AMP dedicated circuit already, but we're looking at adding a second dedicated circuit. I think thats the more future proof solution. Electrician number 2 had suggested putting the 3kw oven on the ring. I am not comfortable with that. In fact i'd thought 2kw and above...

    Considering CU update

That's right. So electrician #1 was 4.2k for all the work (CU upgrade, spots, sockets, general electrical), including a new 4mm circuit for oven. #2 was almost half that price, but said we don't need a dedicated circuit for the 3kw oven. #3 said new circuit be "better", but hasn't quoted...

    Considering CU update

Had another quote, they are recommending a new circuit and NOT wiring into the ring for the oven. Also they fit "fusebox" consumer units - are these better or worse or same as Lewdens Pro can anyone comment please? Or much of a much these days that it doesn't matter

    New boiler - building control?

Hi Just a probably daft question but if I get a gas safe person to replace my boiler, do I need to notify the building control or is that part of gas safe itself? Had asked installer and got a cryptic answer about the manufacturer doing it on our behalf but I think he must have misunderstood...

    Considering CU update

Thanks, so much of a much by sounds of it. What would be top tier these days? I don't mind spending extra. Think I'm paying about 180 for the two units bare, so I wouldn't mind say double that if it offered any tangible benefit in quality.

Are Lewdens Pro consumer units a decent option please, does anyone know? Obviously depends on what the electrician is used to working with, but i don't want to fit bottom end stuff either.
