Yes that is normal, they will not work on old cut outs live.
Ashley J501 junctions can be pulled through the holes you drill for the downlighters. Meaning you don't need anymore junctions, or miles of cable running up the cupboard.
Do they give out more heat than standard bulbs? I thought about using these previously but had visions of seeing my light fittings dripping from the flex :lol: :lol:
You must have an awful lot of lighting on that circuit.
Do you only have one circuit covering your property?

What about changing some bulbs for low energy version? Including your 400w flood light.
You should really disconnect everything, and use an insulation resistance meter, which tests at 500v.
This meter will damage electronic components etc, hence the reason for testing in isolation.
