Hi, True! I have a detector, which will find joists and cables, also it shows if the cable is live. Very handy for house renovation. C

Renovating 1800's House - Marble Fireplace been tiled over

Hi K, I agree with RG, don't remove the skirting boards, just a small square of timber fitted into hole. You should find the cables for the sockets are vertically up the wall, so an electrician, will simple raise them to there you wish and reconnect. It depends on what you want to do with the...

    Dealer or private?

Hi all, As I'm after a car derived van, I think ex demo is out. Thanks for the broker link, I asked them a question. Later I could show the main dealer here, the result of the broker enquiry. I need to look more into the models also. Thanks, C

    Dealer or private?

Hi B and J, I'm interested in a Toyota coroller. I had a drive in my brother's. His is a car derived van, which I also want, so there's no rear seats, blacked out windows, plus a few little differences. This would mean that an agency is really favourite for me, to get what I want. I imagine...

    Dealer or private?

Hi, I'm about to buy a hybrid car. I most likely will buy a new one. Is it better to use a dealer or a nearly new second hand one? C

    Levelling a sterling board floor

Hi, I laid a sterling board floor, but some of the edges are different levels, by a couple of mm. This will have sheets of underlay, then laminate or vinyl. Will a couple of mm show or does it need to be level? Camerart

    Hard silicon/adhesive in tube/cartridge TIP

Hi W and J, I've given up on clearing nozzle and just use a new one every time I don't always want to go and get another tube, for what may be a quick job, and it may be adhesive or silicon. I'm not talking about the nozzles, but just inside the tube, where it gets hard. C

    Hard silicon/adhesive in tube/cartridge TIP

Hi, I try to keep tubes of silicon etc for later jobs, but it goes hard in the end of the tube. I usually get a new nozzle or clean the old one, which is easy, but trying to pull out the solid silicone in the tube end doesn't work most times. I found a handy tip for this. Get some hard tubing...

Vehicles reporting data back to base

Hi A, Don't get me wrong, I don't have the skills to do this. There are many reasons not do do this, which is no help to anyone, so anyone with positive views who would like the choice of what's being sent back to base, then please join in, and I may approach companies that would be able to...

Vehicles reporting data back to base

Hi A, I'm sure many agree with you, but for us with other views, I hope some company does show interest, and develop something equal to the manufacturers control system, with only the extras that the customer wants, so everybody will be happy ;) C.

Vehicles reporting data back to base

Hi, Your BMW brushed motor link was interesting, although I wouldn't want to change the brushes, they're not like my black and decker ones. It just shows what can be done. I once nearly had an accident because of ABS brakes, on the ice. I was trying to control my van by braking as I've always...

    Spray foam insanity

Hi, Beware, of the type of foam you're using. I did the same think last week. After I'd sprayed, I took one glove of and got one drip on my finger, that I wiped off. Later in the bath it started burning. C

Pipework for washbasin running outside building - building reg compliant?

Hi B I'm just doing a similar legalwise job, where sewars (done a year ago) needed a separate building regs application, to the lintel I was adding in. The BC accepted the sewars to be within the same application as the lintel, so only one application. I think it depends on your BC officer...

Water butt - those 200L ex-commercial barrels question

Hi, This is great for recycling. I found one of these drums in the road, and it will store cement and other 'keep dry' bags for a long time. C

Vehicles reporting data back to base

Hi, Replying to the 'None smart electronics' replies. The electric motors in cars aren't like the dc Scalextric motors with their slidable potentiometer, but are brushless switched motors. I use these in other projects, and they're much more efficient. With some careful computer techlogogy...

Vehicles reporting data back to base

Hi, I got to thinking! Would it be possble to make or modify an existing car with controller, that connected the accelerator and brake to the motor/battery, and do without all of the technology? C.

Vehicles reporting data back to base

Hi, I'm thinking about buying a car, and have noticed that they have data monitoring and engine switch off in the newer ones. Does anyone know how true this is, and if it's invasive, like location data etc. Also is there a way of disconnecting it, so it can be made a private vehicle. Cheers...
