New boiler advice, standard or combi

Hi F, I've just worked out the inefficiency! I pay approx £300/year extra. In the winter it's on all day. C.

    Window door measurement information

Hi R, Good stuff! Regarding building regs, yes, I'm inspected at every important move. This was a coal shed/outside toilet lean to, and there's a wall plate all along the ull width of it. It is 80x100 and served as the lintel for the toilet door and window. This opening is twice the width, so...

    Window door measurement information

Hi R, Thanks, that's helpful. Floor to Lintel is 1720mm with 50mm drop to the damp course, as shown. and 1200mm Wide. I think doors may be a bit too low, so I'll veer towards windows, and probably will look better if they're even framed all round so 1720X1200. Do you think it should be a single...

    Window door measurement information

Hi R, I'm buying from a wholesaler, who said it was on their computer but not publicised. I try not to outstay my welcome. As a DIYer I can go to a company who buy from them, and waste their time, but they'll give me the measurements, but I'm trying to find out as much as I can first. What...

    Leak under bath

Hi J, Has your leak stopped leaking now? Sometimes, when looking, dry everything off first, then test C

    Window door measurement information

Hi, I'm about to fit either a window or french window/door into a low height wall. I have the lintel to damp course measurement, but the floor lever is a bit higher than the damp course, so the window will hang down a bit. I need to visualise what it will look like before choosing window or...

New boiler advice, standard or combi

Hi F, Thanks for your research, interesting. There is a roomstat in the hall, and thermostatic valves on all rads. I probably don't use it in the most efficient way, but in the warmer weather I just press the boost buttons and it warms up the bathwater. C.

New boiler advice, standard or combi

Hi M, When I last flushed and inhibited the water, I took the water tank outside and cleaned it out the best I could. I emptied and cleaned the cold water tanks, which are covered and insulated. Not a pretty sight! When it was installed, the plumber only used one pipe to the cold water tanks...

New boiler advice, standard or combi

Hi D, Changing the boiler is a bit of a lottery, but I'll have to jump once this one plays up. C

New boiler advice, standard or combi

Hi F, No auto valves, a motorised pump, which occassionally needs a cap, but basic and working. How inefficient do you think it is compared to the cost of a new one, and possible repairs, in not too long? I've debated a new one, also heat pumps, but I leave well alone for now. C

    Leak under bath

Hi J, Inside the bath, under the plug, there is a seal between it and the bath, then another seal between the bath and the connecting pipework that you show. If you want to do it yourself, try undoing the fitting immediately under the bath while stopping the plug fitting turning. This is a bit...

New boiler advice, standard or combi

Hi H, Yes, I've been lucky, but DIY and not racing to change has helped. I've seen that 3 port actuators and simillar have problems. Could it be due to the water hardness? My thermostastic radiator valves sometimes stick, so I tap the internal brass rod with a bit of wood to clear them. I...

New boiler advice, standard or combi

Hi F, Housewarmer 45 back boiler. It has a safety cut out, but the gas fire in front of it doesn't so I have a gas alarm. C.

New boiler advice, standard or combi

Hi N, My system is 1986, and aprt from flushing out and reinhibiting, the only thing that has broken has been the pump, and I changed the starting capacitor, for a few pound, and am still having hot baths :) Think twice before changing. C.

Need help identifying left over parts from assembling a new table saw

Hi L, Look for holes/tubes with that diameter, and see if there's an allen screw to hold them in place. They look like hinges of some sort, maybe for guards, or wheels? C

    Sewar regulations

Hi, Some time ago, I replaced glazed sewar pipe with plastic, and I didn't realsie that it was a noticeable job, regarding Building regulations. Now while doing another job, the sewars were noticed and the inspector want to see each end of each sewar. The water drains have traps on them, but I...
