Is UK polyb pipe the same as the stuff CONDEMNED in the US?

can the OP cite a reference for this flaking accusation? seems to me it is more likely the joints also. especially as the things keep getting redesigned

    Advertising your business

existing customer base, being available. the pub and similar, leaflets have done nothing for me, local rag has been quite good when i've used it. not for the faint hearted, but apparently our polish cousins are avid church goers, and once you are in with the god botherers, you're sorted...

    Recommend me a new blowlamp...

says propane or mapp cartridges, so i guess they are standard fittings as available in any merchants. it's likely a chinese rip off of a superfire 2, cheaper materials, but will do the job fine.

    6" square drain cover

i changed ours to plate as we were using fork trucks in the area - kept cracking the cast ones. depends what the area is used for.

can i remove my condensate pump and vent to a drain?

doh. bungalow. yeah, 5m would be ok, but as hugh says, a larger bore will give a bit more tolerance in cold spells, and better yet, keep it in the heated envelope of the building as far as possible. i take it there is no convenient gutter down pipe nearer?

How do I take off the radiator turner/cap/adjuster/knob PICS

the bit where they screw the spindle out of the body mainly...... they forget to mention the gallons of black water that you will have making an attractive water feature in your lounge edit: yeah, what seco says :D

can i remove my condensate pump and vent to a drain?

you only want to have short runs of condensate - up to say 3m if your pump has a sump & level switch, then it will only operate when the sump is full. if it is running every 30sec, then either it is wrongly adjusted or has no sump. if you have no sump, you can buy another which has one

    Removing Render from Brickwork?

i'll start thew ball rolling - hire something like a bosch 11kg breaker. used one for that purpose recently and it was a pleasure to use after the kango 900 i started off with.

Does expanding foam have any insulating properties?

coulnd't give you a u or r value for it, but yes, it does insulate - obviously not in the same league as kingspan, but insulate it does.

    6" square drain cover

don't know, but i once had my local steel shop cut me some squares of 8mm plate, which i then drilled with a press drill for drainage they're still in use today best part of 15 years on.........

    Torches?

i look stupid anyway, so it makes no odds to me. got an energizer headlight - spot, periphery, combined & red light (the red is good for scaring trick or treaters, but not much use otherwise). i keep buying those plumb centre LED c cell torches - the aluminium ones. they're ok, but the...

    Dr Drivel is back?

hey, i wonder if we could help each other. my brother died in france last year and had £20,000,000 in a chequeing account, plus 200kg of gold dust in a deposit box (it was a big box). i'm not interested in the gold, you can have that, and i'll split the £20m with you. all you need to do...

    Storm Heating broke my boiler

he didn't necessarily cause the major breakdown. i'd suggest getting a quote for the repair if you think it is economical and call your insurance back - raise a stink, if not, get quotes for a new boiler & review of the existing system, you'll have to go some to spend 4k. even if you need...

    Different size heating pipes

as a rough guide, 22mm for the main circuits and 15mm from the 22mm to individual rads is all you normally need. what do you have? like simon says, you really need to look at something like that to know what you're talking about though.

    Dry packing above beam

don't see why a nice sharp sand/cement mix pushed in as far as possible (even into the cavity) would be a problem. do it damp or wettish, the cement will never go off if it is dry and you need something that is structural to take the load onto the beams.

    Gutter cleaning tool

you can hire an allow tower for reasonable money, any hire shop will deliver it and instruct on erection. perfectly safe and easy to set up. you probably need a more suicidal window cleaner.

    The baseball cap

i've worn them for probably the last 12 years, pretty much everyday - although i sometimes look up and realise i'm the only one in sight wearing one - it's mainly for work or out shopping - keeps the sun out of my eyes and just stops me bumping my noggin quite so hard. plus the added bonus...
