    Telephone Socket Overload

ntl and Telewest were the last 2 left after mergers and acquisitions throughout the 90's & 00's - the deal was structured so that Telewest acquired ntl and the new company(ntl-telewest) bought the rights to trade under the Virgin brand. Maybe the earlier owners worked for ntl (or Nynex as it...

Best price needed for new Riello 40G3B

A new burner would need to be set up in situ with a pressure gauge and combustion measured and set. Ideally by a competent person. http://www.abgo.co.uk/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=2310&Itemid=26 The above is a kit which will...

    Boulter economy

I'm amazed the landlord is happy to go down the new boiler path without investigating further - couple of hundred£ Vs couple of thousand£. My experience is they want least outlay for most return. The boiler just needs a competent boiler man out to it and they aren't necessarily Oftec...

Worcester Bosch 20/25 combi boiler Oil issue

I know what you mean John, it's that balance between trying to help someone out of a fix in this weather and being aware of their limitations (in terms of test gear etc...) Sounds like OP has bled the fuel line now but turned the pump pressure down too low.

He's gonna struggle if he's turned the pump pressure right down: Really needs someone in with an oil pressure gauge to reset this

Urgent help / advice removing a capacitor from Riello burner

It sounds like you were unscrewing the bleed screws, look for a nut on the bottom of the filter. As John says start at the tank, if you've got oil coming out you can then move upstream, no oil at this point then you can't go any further.

Urgent help / advice removing a capacitor from Riello burner

Nothing to lose by checking the filter, I'd imagine it's much colder now than Monday and if there's some water there it'll freeze. Are there any joints between the tank and the boiler that you'd feel confident of opening? I find it sometimes helps to tease it through this way or blowing some...

I agree with last post. Why not ask your oil supplier to recommend someone if they don't have their own in house guys?

Worcesetr Oilfire Heatslave 26/32 Oil Boiler

Big boiler so assume it's a large house - I'd usually set the pump to 3 on a combi boiler so you should be OK

Worchester combi oil boiler 'goes to sleep'

If your HW is OK then it sounds like the cartridge in the 3 port valve is getting stuck - I take it the programmer lights up as if the CH is on but nothing happens?

    oil burner restart

That's the problem with intermittant faults, it could be a number of things, the best thing is for the oilman to see it lock out and work away from there. Best thing is to get someone out who will hopefully have the parts on the van. Does sound like a relay sticking in the control box but...

    Oil boiler filled with soot

Yeah it's always satisfying to get a neglected old boiler looking and running well, the surprise on the customers face when the Henry comes out or when you ask where the oil tank is - "the other bloke never looked at the oil tank or used a hoover" I had a recent one where another engineer rang...

    Boulter economy

Should be down to your landlord to ensure the boiler is working, ideally getting it serviced every year and then getting it fixed when it's broken. Does the boiler go to lock out when you hear the noise? Did the engineer check for water in the oil when changing the pump?

    Oil boiler filled with soot

Then learn on the job at the customers expense...through parts at it until it works and do 30 min "services"... It's a shame because the only guaranteed way a customer can get a decent oilman is through a personal recommendation, and if they don't know anyone how do they get someone...

    Oil boiler filled with soot

It may be different over in Eire and I hope Oftec do get it right there (my sister and much of my Dads' family are in the Boyle area) - but over here it seems that fellas turn up for assessments with no training attached (not Oftecs' fault they are there to assess your knowledge of the regs -...
