Why are some lights dimmable and others not?

As stated in the original post I would be fitting these with 50W 240V GU10 halogen bulbs as in the item description and not LED bulbs as in the picture. My question still stands, why are some fittings dimmable and others not given the same bulb type?

Why are some lights dimmable and others not?

Looking at buying some spotlights for the kitchen and want them to be dimmable. Notice that Homebase do a range that all use GU10 50W 240V Halogen bulbs and some of them state that they are dimmable and others don't. Question is, what makes the light fitting dimmable given the same bulb type...

Well, I thought by saying what my existing boiler was would aid the thought process. Anyway, I thought this was a DIY forum designed to help people, like myself, better their knowledge and understanding. (There's a clue in the url address!). Please stay off this thread Tony. Your...

What amp rated transformer to run car light via mains please

Excellent idea, thanks. Already found a nice blue one from Maplin's outlet.. :D TBH, was struggling to find a high enough rated transformer to drive the rubbolite. Looked at low voltage halogen transformers (kind used in kitchen lighting) which are readily available in ~150VA but they've...

What amp rated transformer to run car light via mains please

I want to run a Rubbolite 150 (orange emergency flashy light), which is designed for installation on top of a car/van, inside my boys bedroom off mains 240v. He's obsessed with nee-nars at the moment!! The light has a 12V 55W bulb and small motor to turn the mirror round. Allowing a few...

Permanent 'live' to boiler SL. Pump running 24/7

I thought the motorised heads were simply plug compatible, put whatever monkey wired the house up 12 years ago decided against that! Just open the two plugs up and noticed wiring is different! Now have CH working on timer, and HW under manual control till replacement part arrives...

Permanent 'live' to boiler SL. Pump running 24/7

With both CH and HW off at timer, both valves are closed but orange wire from CH head remains live (high). Disconnecting orange wire causes pump to turn off. :) Must conclude a broken microswitch in CH motorised valve. As a temporary fix until new head arrives I tried swapping the CH and...

Permanent 'live' to boiler SL. Pump running 24/7

Hi, Wondered if anyone could help with the following. I suspect I've got a broken CH motorised valve head, resulting in pump running 24/7. With CH and HW off at timer, I'm still getting live to SL in boiler (neon1 on). If I unplug electrics to the CH motorised head the pump goes off...

Feed from water pump straight back to boiler, with tap?

It won't. My question was worded badly. When my valves are open, what stops my newly heated water going straight back to the boiler down this bypass pipe? Doesn't water behave like electricity and take path of least resistance? Also, how open should the tap be please? fully, half, just...

Feed from water pump straight back to boiler, with tap?

CH is working fine, but for interest wondered if someone could help explain the following please. The pipe out my water pump (POST boiler output) splits three ways: 1) CH motorised valve 2) HW motorised valve 3) Pipe straight back to boiler input, with tap. What is the need for the pipe...
