    Blocked guttering downpipe drain

I dug out the original house plans earlier (hand drawn from early 1960s). I now know it definitely goes to a soakaway. Anyone know how far from the house a soakaway would have been in the '60s?

    Blocked guttering downpipe drain

Yeah, I think you're right. I'm intending to live here for a long time so should sort it properly. A new well installed soakaway should outlive me if installed properly from what I have read! I'm just wondering if there is any possibility of unblocking the existing one. Might be worth an £80...

    Blocked guttering downpipe drain

I was thinking that but is it a good idea to discharge water that close to the house?

    Blocked guttering downpipe drain

Hi all, I noticed a downpipe was leaking a lot of water at water butt junction so took it apart and found the whole pipe below that point full of soil. Must be many many years of moss build up. I've dismantled it and unblocked in into the ground but can't unblock round the corner which is about...

Sticking shed roof felt down with flash band

Hi all, What are thoughts on using flash band to stick down roof felt overlaps to avoid both nailing through the felt and the messy bitumen glue? Picture below shows what I mean which was an attempt to to fix a leak coming through nail holes. It hasn't worked so going to completely replace...

4 concrete blocks to render or cover - ideas?

Hi all, I have 4 concrete blocks next to my front door that I would like to cover up to make it look nicer (see photos). The rest of that wall is rendered. As a novice DIYer do yo think I could render it myself? If not I thought maybe covering it white weatherboards as there are already some on...

2 way light switch problem after building work

You sir are a genius. It's fixed!! Swapped L1 and Com on both switches. The only mystery that remains is who the hell rewired it in the first place???

2 way light switch problem after building work

Another thought, would a multimeter help diagnose the problem or would it just confirm what we know?

2 way light switch problem after building work

Are you saying it's worth trying swapping L1/2 and com at the switch?

2 way light switch problem after building work

Aha it wouldn't trip. No work above. The weird thing is that no work was done between the switches and the light. A wall was removed and new ceiling was plaster boarded about 1m from the light but in the opposite direction to the switches. No idea where the mystery junction box is.

2 way light switch problem after building work

I'm thinking this too as electrician is adamant that he didn't see or touch the junction box. I have no reason to disbelieve him as all the junction boxes he installed are easily accessible so why wouldn't he just fix it if it was that easy. Any idea what could cause the short? Builder says...
