Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi with opentherm

I think that might be wise TBH. I think OpenTherm only gives a few % extra efficiency at most so maybe better just to leave it in relay mode until the summer. Also I think I'll stop mentioning that adapter. I have no idea why it worked for me straight out of the box but so far that's two...

    Drayton Wiser operating questions

Might not have been planned! It's an assumption on my part (as a programmer) TBH. I noticed there were a bunch of outages shortly before they rolled out the last firmware and app upgrade, too.

Yeah I think it's down for some maintenance.

Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi with opentherm

I think @Ranking Roger might have run into the same issue: https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/heating-zone-for-loft-conversion.601082/post-5362992 I didn't have a solution for him, but pinging just in case he found one. I used the same converter with a Greenstar 30i and it fired right up, but...

Smart Thermostat for Ideal Vogue C32 Boiler

Drayton Wiser is also a good option. You'd want kit 1 and some extra smart TRVs as needed. Works with Alexa. If your boiler has Opentherm (probably does) then you can use it with Wiser, otherwise you can use relay control (on/off, but still smart). Easy to DIY install - the Hub just needs mains...

    Heating Zone for Loft Conversion

Different boiler to me, but looks wired correctly (makes sense if it was previously on EMS). I can't see anything wrong with what you've done and I'd expect that to work based on my experience with this adapter unless there's a sneaky short circuit. I initially set mine up for relay control and...

    Heating Zone for Loft Conversion

Hmm. Do you have the 30i or the OP's 34CDi? Did you add a short link between Live Out and Live Return (for CH) - or alternatively have you tied the relay wires that were going to the thermostat together (should be equivalent)? I think shorted Opentherm wires would also be equivalent to constant...

    Warm roof concern

Rip the ceiling down to fix it (but maybe it's not in yet)? And I guess you need extra care if there are penetrations for downlighters etc, and achieve a good seal around the edge by some means. That does sound like a solution to go with if you were trying to cheaply fix a problem with an...

    Heating Zone for Loft Conversion

Also worth noting that while I think your Worcester-Bosch Greenstar likely doesn't support Opentherm natively (it'll be EMS instead), you can likely get support with an adapter from the Netherlands where they mandate support (I believe). I bought this one for use with my WB Greenstar 30i ErP...

    Heating Zone for Loft Conversion

Programmable heads are a decent middle ground - probably quite a bit cheaper than a full smart heating system. I would say that a "Smart TRV" is networked with a controller so it can be centrally controlled and communicate the temperature in each room. Obviously this gives you app/remote...

    Warm roof concern

Sounds doubtful to me. Did they tape it? And if they did tape it, surely they'll have taped it across the top, not the bottom - which would put the "VCL" on the cold side - and it seems like that's putting a lot of faith in the tape to stay perfectly sealed.

    Warm roof concern

I would think so, otherwise you're going to get condensation soaking the top OSB layer and insulation, which will presumably then go mouldy and rot. You want a professional roofer's opinion, but it sounds like you already got one. Edit: BS5250:2011 (latest version I could find online) says...

    Warm roof concern

Yeah that should be a VCL. How does a roofer mess that up?

Worcester Bosch Combo Power Cycle / Restart Question

According to the manual: The boiler runs for 15 minutes at minimum heating output to fill the condensate trap. The display alternates between [+] and the central heating flow temperature. This occurs every time the mains supply has been interrupted.

    Heating Zone for Loft Conversion

You could also use smart TRVs. These will communicate back to a controller and are able to hold a set temperature room-by-room and fire the boiler when necessary. e.g. Tado, Drayton Wiser, Worcester Bosch EasyControl

    Drayton Wiser operating questions

Post your insights graph? FWIW I had to think a bit about how long it takes my rads to actually heat the rooms, and decided to raise the night-time temperature slightly (to 15 downstairs and 16 in the warmer rooms). I figured Wiser can easily hold that temp with very small bursts of heat...

    Drayton Wiser operating questions

Just for the sake of comparison, here's some screenshots from my system in operation today. I am running with Opentherm, Comfort Mode and Eco Mode, with Wiser TRVs on all rads. These pics are from the "Downstairs" zone (three rooms) which I have chosen to run on the same schedule and a bit...

    Drayton Wiser operating questions

You definitely have the room associated with the schedule, right? If you expand Schedule Details and then Applies to your room stat should have a green tick. Or tap the room from the Home screen and make sure it has Follow schedule and links from Edit Schedule.

    Drayton Wiser operating questions

As far as I can see, the app mirrors the thermostat display. As ian says, there's a bit of learning involved for Comfort mode and Eco mode. Comfort mode will essentially move the next scheduled set point earlier so that the room is at the desired temperature when you asked for it - so it has to...
