    Plaster vs Filler

Please excuse the stupid question! Histroricaly because I've been scared of plaster, I've used filler to fill holes in walls (and over cable chasing and areas where old plaster fallen off) - using something like Eazi-fill Last project I built a stud wall and plasterboard and plastered it...

    Plywood sheets (flat!)

FFS. After talking to the wife about the possible emulsion issue, then looking at other similar project photos online, she is now happy with gloss finish lol! Which is what was suggested at the start but she said no. Which means we can do it differently and simpler than the hidden wall idea...

    Plywood sheets (flat!)

Good info there, thanks. We already have the MFC - we had a kitchen from diy-kitchens last year, and they also sell cut to sized, edged, strong, 18mm thick, and very good MFC (really meant for kitchen bits). So we just ordered all the correct sizes for our shelves and stored it to this year...

    Plywood sheets (flat!)

Hi My experience of Buildbase/B&Q type plywood is that its pretty naff and not as flat as you want. I have bought expensive lightweight ply (for campervan build, from campervan parts supplier) - and that was dead flat and light, but not available locally Is there anything inbetween from...

Making cupboard door (ply face, timber frame)

Good advice here, thanks I have used a hard-wood merchant to get oak before they planed for me. But softwood I've only seen/bought from the likes of Travis Perkins or Buildbase.... So looks like I need to find a proper merchant! Interesting you guys say a "proper" joint isn't needed - good to...

Making cupboard door (ply face, timber frame)

I'm making an under-stairs multi cupboard setup and want 3 flush/plain doors that will be painted wall colour so they won't look like doors (maybe!) The 3 doors will each be 500mm wide, 45' (ish) angle at the top, and one door will be 2.2 max, one 1.6 and one 1.2. Hope you get the idea :)...

Ideas for "wall doors" under stairs....

Thanks I have some that I bought to look at a while ago that should work. (*should!*) Assuming the hinges are undamped and not soft close, these act on the opposite side to the hinge and act as a soft-close too. So the last 2cm of closing pushes in the piston. Then pressing the cupboard door...

Ideas for "wall doors" under stairs....

Fairpoint Doggit. Looking at the hinge spec - the screws will need to be in @ 31mm (20mm radius of hole, + 11mm from edge for 40mm door) - so will check any door I get :) TBH - even if the hinge hole had to be 2mm from edge (thus screws at 22mm) then I'm happy I can engineer the "posts" to...

Ideas for "wall doors" under stairs....

OOOh - max door thickness 43mm concealed hinge.... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hettich-Integrated-Cupboard-Wardrobe-Installation/dp/B071LTRFHH/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1513632457&sr=8-1&keywords=thick%2Bconcealed%2Bhinge&th=1

Ideas for "wall doors" under stairs....

Faced ply pre-made would be fine, think I need to go look & feel - but thanks for planting that idea! (The internal honeycomb would stop the warping, so ideal! I had considered making my own frame but without the internals I was concerned about warp). prepping the wood is fine, delegate...

Ideas for "wall doors" under stairs....

That's an idea! Not sure about planning the hardwood - too manual for my liking :) Flush router bit maybe! May need to reconsider my hinge idea - as these may be too thick for the kitchen unit concealed hinges? (the 3 doors will be next to each other with no visible uprights as they will be...

Ideas for "wall doors" under stairs....

Hi Planning on knocking down the wall under the stairs (the tri-angular bit) and building a clever cupboard setup. I'm planning on 3x 500-600mm wide doors, floor (ish) to the top - so the top of the door is angled. Sort of like...

Engineered Oak over tiles (DPM question)

Hi We have old house, concrete floor with tiles on top. There is no insulation or DPM that I can see. And we're NOT going to dig up the tiles or concrete (ceiling is very high, so can repeat 30x if needed - just add steps lol) Anyway.... The engineered oak (14mm) will be click-lock, and...

    Moving a gas pipe

Thanks, useful to know and sorry, yep, not here enough to know the in jokes. Ironically, had another quote just now very close to that figure.

    Moving a gas pipe

Thanks The pipework length is, within a few cm, the same - its just being rerouted from a previous install dogs dinner. The boiler and hob have been working away merrily for 10+ years, and trouble free since I've been here (5 years) - so should be out of the equation. £84 mentioned above...

    Moving a gas pipe

Hi NOT asking for DIY help (it is DIYNOT after all :) ) - just curious over price to expect to pay, or expected job length. Job would be to alter the route of a gas pipe to a hob, the change would be the last 5 meters. The last 5m of the route, current and new, is exposed and accessible...

    Thin skim

Ha! Today, I was using orbital sander and dust extractor :) And yep, I (was) planning 3-4 fill & sand cycles with bits at a time. And I have a bag of easi-fill here (not used yet) for the bigger bits - but debating whether to use that or get someone in. I should say, in the entire room, there...

    Thin skim

Hi Old 1933s house, and most walls and plaster is far from perfectly flat, and that gives it character :) But DIYing and been chasing channels, removing tiles etc, and the walls are in very good condition (thick plaster on blocks, but varying age plaster). I've filled/sanded the channels and...

New mains supply pipe from outside

Side path is just gravel, and I assume gravel on compact earth, same as the drive. Looking at house from front, left is extension (solid floor), middle is hall (solid floor) right is living room (probably raised wooden floor). Kitchen goes all way across hall/living room and is solid floor...

New mains supply pipe from outside

Water inspector asked for 25mm, and all internal is 15mm, (even single 15mm to combi boiler and cold bath) so see little benefit in 32. No access on the other side of house which is where the original lead may go - but that's been built over with extension before my time and no gap to boundary...
