    Sockets on skirting boards

To be perfectly honest with you, PVC insulated cables are still under test. There doesnt seem to be any break down in the insulative properties, however, Years of electron stripping currents do cause metal fatigue ( Its the reason why fuses seem to melt for no apparent reason and the term "the...

    dying shaver socket?

Firstly that wall seems a little too thin, you should have a discernable gap left betweem tranny and other wall. In the box it is screwed into, has the back been cut out for it to be against that other wall? If not, clear away any lagging and make some space and drill a couple of holes into the...

    Wireless Smoke detectors

Optical detectors literally look through the free air inside the chamber to a receiver and guage the amount of fine particles that make up "smoke" by detecting a less clearer view (in layman terms ) Ionisation detectors still do the same thing but differently. The sensing part of the...

    equipment fault

Disconnect the transformer and test the winding resistance to see if you get 2.3Kohm. In fact isolate the board completely to prove the fact. If different, then you need to investigate further.

    extending the ring main?

Yes there is. You need a tester that can provide a continuity test. Find the Breaker that feeds the Ring circuit and switch it off. Make sure you are safe and if need be switch off the main switch just to be sure. remove the 2 lives from the breaker and seperate them. If you put your tester...

If you have a RCD protected external socket in place already, you can just go and buy a submersible pump and follow the instructions. As Breezer says, you just plug it in.

GRRRRRR @ Plumbers. To be honest have you ever tried to push copper pipe through holes in joists ? As for the mess...well thats just being sloppy, it can also cause problems later on with flux inside the pipe causing blockages etc.

    Kinspan foam fire hazard?

Not while I live here they wont. If LED fittings were left on 24/7 they would still last 3 or 4 years without the need to change them. I just dont like Halogens in ceilings. IMHO I think they are dangerous if fitted by people who do not understand the dangers.

    Kinspan foam fire hazard?

I would probably avoid at all costs putting in halogens. As said many times here, Intumescent fire hoods are not designed to be used as fire protection. These fittings need space. Why not go for high light output GU10 LED fittings. I have them in my extension and they are quite bright actually.

I should stress that Tenby "old" style switches are rubbish, I was referring solely to Double and single switched socket outlets.
