    electrical qualifications

PAT testing will bore the pants off you..trust me, its suicidedly boring. House bashing will destroy your knees. Although the grass may seem greener elsewhere, it rarely is.

Accenta 6 Alarm - Loss of power and Flashing PIRs

Im not familiar with this panel but it seems feasible that theres a short from the alarm loop to the power supply of the PIR on the feed cable (first one on that zone that flashes). If the alarm loop or maybe even the anti tamper loop have a pulsed monitoring circuit within the panel...doubtful...

air con causes buzzing in speakers

Might I suggest a few anti-surge sockets fitted in the studio. The clean earth suggested above is a good idea. A/C splits arent usually fitted with suppression caps but you can fit them. Im far too old to remember the calcs Im afraid.

    Home Security Alarms

Its expensive to have an alarm monitring station involved. I quite like some of the suggestions here...am about to install a new alarm in my place. Was thinking of going well OTT ( you only live once ). How about a mains loop connecting 230V to chicken wire around the windows...then...

    Home Office - Mains Sockets

I agree that MK Powerlink and its competitive counterparts are expensive but the whole idea is that not only can you run power cables through it to various points but also due to its compartments you can also run telephone and data cables to wherever you want those. All in all you should save...

    Home Security Alarms

Im not advertising here but Senate Elec Wholesalers are doing kits at very reasonable prices. Basically you need to work out where your zones will be. Zone 1 is always final exit and entry point. It has a time delay when activated which gives you time to get in and disarm it and also to get...

    Boxes in Breeze block

If you want to cut out a square for your box, do you already have either a hole for cable entry or do you intend to chase the blocks as well? and...how high are these blocks?

    telephone wiring

Do you leave your pc on all the time and are you on Broadband? Try running a virus check to see if you have an Auto dialler dumped into your pc. Actually just disconnect the pc altogether from your phone line and plug all the original phones, faxes etc back in one by one and see if the problem...

    advice on diy electrics

It is a lash-up. RCDs are great for electrical safety but too many people use them as a license to do what they like. Please explain what the cables look like and also explain this enclosure please. I would rip the lot out and start again frankly. To start with I would give all of the...

    What sort of Extractor fan?

Under the stairs...a small room I presume. a 4" in-line fan would be best. What you need is 1) a 4" in-line fan 2) a 4" ducting kit that will cover the distance, otherwise get 2. 3) an external grille. 4) a few metres of 3-core and earth 5) a triple pole fan isolating switch. Some 6mm Earth (if...

    Opinions? UK Wiring standards.

When we have members of the public who are not Au fait with Electricity asking for advice from Electricians, how can we safely expect them to carry out electrical work to a standard that not only conforms to Part P but also the basic standards by which we all have to abide by however trivial. By...

    Earth for outside light fitting...?

Just because its Habitat it still doesnt mean the fitting is Pukka UK standard. Clearly if there are no symbols on the fitting then they have just bought some cheap fittings with a high mark up for profit. The buying department probably have no knowledge of what complies and what doesnt but...
