    Ip 65 downlighters

Common sense I suppose. I mean you know if a fitting would withstand a jet of water wouldnt you? Otherwise you would just use the correct fittings which are not that dear are they lets be honest.

When I was on site I used to look for 2 chippies on the job or 2 brickies...there was sometimes a "power struggle" normally ending up with one saying "you do it your and I'll do it mine ok.......now f*** off ". Basically its a case of someone of the same trade always checking you out to see if...

    Latching Relay

Something you could try is to remove the timer board from a bathroom fan, mount it in a box thats fit for purpose, make the appropriate conns between the door feed/load receiver relay and perm. feed and in the same way as you connect a fan with run-on timer, connect the light to the output...

Replacing plastic switches with stainless steel dimmers

You'll need deeper boxes for dimmers for sure, the higher the load the bigger the dimming coil so maybe even a 35mm deep box will be needed. Ask the supplier what the depth is and add a few mms for connections. Make sure you have an earth in the switch drop.

Ban all sheds thats a lot of smileys....10/10 for effort. Please explain them. Some years ago I was a subby at Aldermaston on a major refurb. All of the accessories were being changed to the then "new" style MK accessories. 3 weeks into the project one of the specifiers was visiting the...

Well for an oldie I can honestly say that this idea is marvelous not least because you are never too experienced to learn something new and it is an interesting subject. I wish we had this technology when I was at college...might have done me technicians then. I also wish I found this site...

    Is this correct????

Dont panic just yet my friend. It may be that a few minor wiring alterations may be needed. You could try a reputable company to come and carry out a thorough test and inspection. You'll probably find that the cables are in the right place but a few tweaks are needed with final connections. But...

    Short Spurs

Some here will correct me if Im wrong but I believe 2.5mm T&E has a rating of 27A which is why we use a ring circuit to split the load into 2 legs. But if you run 1.5 mm from one of those sockets to a spur then that cable is on its own radial and has a rating of only 18A but is protected by a...

Its a good question. Over the years we see new editions of the regs and new interpretations of mainly Earthing until the harmonising came about. As a middle aged spark I have to say that I am totally opposed to the way the Europeans have forced us to adopt their way of thinking in many...

    Is this correct????

I sometimes wonder how some companies have the gall to get NICEIC accreditaton and seem to carry out tests from the comfort of their desk without ever visiting the premises, simply because of a rush to get an invoice out and also too much trust in their own staff. Why is it when the NIC want to...

New ring main but have solid concrete ground floors

If someone asked me to chase steel conduit into a wall at skirting level Id walk away and say get someone else or price it too high....sod that for a game of cards. The screen in FP200 isnt an effective earth connection at all. You might consider using skirting trunking. It can be an expensive...

    polarity

Huh !!!!! What book was that may I ask ? Your reference to common I presume should be Neutral. Polarity tests are as previously said. Live to Earth and Live to Neutral are identical therefore Earth and Neutral are at the same potential. If you get voltages other than 230V I would suggest you...
