Levelling a very uneven wooden subfloor

Hi PP I didn't need to follow your link as I remember seeing your post before and thinking how impressive it was!! The flooring that has had to be replaced has matched the existing within 5mm, albeit thinner, but I plan to lay hardboard to level to the existing floorboards, then fit furring...

Levelling a very uneven wooden subfloor

Hi Having read mattysupra's very useful sticky, I was wondering what is considered 'very uneven'. I'm looking at tiling the bathroom floor but the house has had settlement and the floor has a drop of 25mm over 2 metres to level. It's not a visible drop as the room is small but when you're...

    CRACKED PEBBLEDASH

We have a similar problem but due to historic settlement. The Structural Engineer advised to cut back the render 200mm either side of the crack, make good the pointing in the brickwork (and chock up any movement with slate if required) then re-render the area. I've spoken to a good all round...

    Worcester-Bosch Condense Syphon Filling programme

Well it doesn't appear to be syphoning, just constantly trickling. I understand that it should fill a 'trap' which once filled, then empties by syphon action. If it's just trickling out and not ouring in a deluge every time it's filled, it would appear that it is effectively the flue! The...

Do you need to tank aquapanel? If you apply Aquapanel tape and waterproof tile adhesive to the joints, corners and holes (pipes for mixer), would this not suffice? rcs

    Advice on damp please.

Note to self: Must read original post properly  Is the problem area well exposed to the elements and prevailing weather? So if the area has been bodged before, there must be something there that needs to be/has been rectified, i.e leaking gutter. Poor pointing can act act as a ridge...

    Advice on damp please.

Is the render removed in that area, cracked or blown? If it's just exposed 9" brick, it would be fair to say that render would fix penetrating damp.

Soil Pipe & WC Connection planning problem

Compo is short for composition, i.e. made up of various parts. It's mortar, just another word.

Soil Pipe & WC Connection planning problem

My sentiments entirely. I always like to keep an eye on things too. Depends on the proximity of the soil pipe to the wall, which like you say is going to be a bit of a problem anyway. I can't see a problem having the joint in the wall space as when it's assembled, you could compo around the...

    Advice on damp please.

Solid brick walls act as heat stores (to a certain extent) and so maintaining constant central heating will dry out any damp problems providing sufficient ventilation is provided, and will stay reasonably warm once heating is removed. When we were doing the real messy work and so uninhabitable...

    Advice on damp please.

Had a similar scenario as did the neighbours 2o years ago. The fix was to improve the ground level drop away from the house, check that the external floor level is far enough below the dpc so rain doesn't splash up, ensure the dpc was not bridged with render and improve sub floor ventilation...
