    Re-locating Air Bricks

Hi noseall, My understanding from your post is that there shouldn't be a problem. Thank goodness I've been worried. Especially in case my floor isn't completely concrete. We have some interior condensation / damp issues and I had thought I had contributed to it. (Unfortunately I didn't...

    masonry bee problem?

Hi, In Spring I observed bees entering the wall of our bungalow via 3 holes (drilled and plugged but open - created by a previous occupant for a sky dish). The holes have since been blocked by what is a mud type substance. Reading suggests these were masonry bees? If so, advice on the...

    Insulating flexible extractor ducting

Thanks Deluks The duct currently runs across the joists on top of the insulation. In theory I could put more insulation on the top but I'm also thinking I have to raise the ducting because it is currently below the level of the wall outlets so any condensing water will sit in the ducting (and...

    Soil pipe cover

wow, thank you all for the responses sorry I wasn't clear The cover is for the top of the soil stack (above the gutter line). I'll try JOHNBOY42's idea and visit Wickes. (Our local B&Q had only a plastic cover and it seemed a lot at £14) Thanks again Pete

    Re-locating Air Bricks

I hope it's not bad etiquette for me to ask when DIYC raised the original question.... I live in a bungalow and yes there are airbricks both at low level (just above the dpc) and high level (1 brick below the soffit). Does this give a clue? Thanks.

    Insulating flexible extractor ducting

Sorry if this is in the wrong place - not sure where it should go.... I have flexible ducting from a bathroom and en-suite to extractor fans and the to exterior walls. It is recommended that the ducting is insulated to minimise 'in-house' condensation. Can someone advise what I should use...

    Shower extractor fan replacement

Hi, Sorry if this is the wrong place for this but most shower fan queries seem to be here. Also please forgive the naivety of the questions: I have a bathroom and en-suite both without windows. I previously installed Silavent Spotvent kits (lights above the shower) but these are not up to...

    Soil pipe cover

I have a cast iron soil pipe but there is no cover on it. It's outside diameter is about 110mm. B&Q say they don't have a suitable cover. Can I buy a ~100mm plastic cover and use mastic to attach it. (I believe there is a risk of blocage if I don't seal it). Thanks

    Re-locating Air Bricks

Mikric, I have many airbricks around my house. The floor appears to be concrete. When I had cavity wall insulation installed they blocked all the air vents. I have since opened them because they 'must have been there for a reason'. There are no airbricks visible from the outer wall on the...

Plaster problems in hall and kitchen - 'blistering'

Thanks Roughcaster. Sorry I hadn't replied earlier, I thought I'd receive an e-mail to say a reply had been made (maybe due to internet access problems I'm having.....) Anyway, I'll ask the plasterer to chase the wires in more deeply when we do the repair (My wife will love that because the...

    Bedroom ceiling

Thanks roughcaster. The ceiling was skimmed before the coving was put up. Although we did have problems with some coving the bit here is secure. Having just looked again the problem seems quite localised so I'm very relieved. We were worried it was due to the vinyl paint remaining a problem...

    Bedroom ceiling

We stripped the woodchip wallpaper from our spare room using a steamer. This brought the paint off the ceiling in strips. We were told that this was because vinyl paint had been used. Eventually we had to re-plaster the ceiling. The person who did it advised it was difficult to ‘stick’. The...

Plaster problems in hall and kitchen - 'blistering'

Dear all, Can someone give me some advice about my plaster please? Pictures can be found at the link below - if I've done that right - great system but I've never uploaded photos before so hopefully ok. I shrank the photos before posting so have better ones if they are unclear...
