    Worried about my plumbers competence

Returning to plumbing: Measured as accurately as I can along the pipe centreline from the very top of the tundish to the very edge of the T&P valve on the cylinder, is 960mm. I believe that's another fault, and the limit is 500mm. However, I don't find any comment on bends or elbows...

    Worried about my plumbers competence

I don't know of anything wrong with the boiler itself other than the condensate drain routing (now fixed) and the fact that the manual says an extra expansion vessel is needed and he didn't fit one. But I don't know what the requirements are - the inlet group manual and cylinder manual, for...

    Worried about my plumbers competence

No problem, and I really am immensely grateful to the several helpful professionals here who have given me not only the information about what is wrong in the pictures but also the pointers to relevant documents / requirements so I can see stuff set out for myself. Yes. Builder gave me a...

    Worried about my plumbers competence

Or perhaps I do understand it but wasn't as ready as some to assume that he must be unregistered. He is registered for gas boiler - I assume my post saying so crossed with yours.

    Worried about my plumbers competence

I have a Gas Safe number. I have put it in http://www.gassaferegister.co.uk/ The plumber is registered, for: Combustion Analysis Cooker Gas Boiler Pipework Range Cooker Vented Cyl Presumably this means the boiler is legal (though it may or may not be safe) but he shouldn't...

    Worried about my plumbers competence

There is a retention (enough to do a new boiler and cylinder install, I think). Despite aspersions cast, at this point I'm more concerned about it being right and safe than about the money, but if it comes to a new install the money will be extracted from the builder's pot not from mine...

    Worried about my plumbers competence

But I don't understand what more I'm supposed to do? I've insisted the plumber who has demonstrated incompetence is ejected from site. I've insisted the builder gets someone who is WB AND Gas Safe to investigate. I've appointed my own Gas Safe chap to come and have a look. On the one...

    Worried about my plumbers competence

That's what I've been doing all along and am still doing - with the one exception of at the point that when the plumber had connected up the cylinder with no expansion vessel effective and said it was a complete and safe install I instructed that he was not to touch anything else in my house...

    Worried about my plumbers competence

Just to be very clear here. The plumber has told me this is a complete and safe install. Should I believe him? I'm not trusting the builder, I'm trusting my ability to read simple clear instructions.

    Worried about my plumbers competence

Just to be clear - because I do take care to be fair to people - it's not a rant directed at easyflow singular 'you', but to the plural 'you' being all those that think the ignorant punter should stay ignorant and silent, even when the 'professional' is being potentially lethally incompetent...

    Worried about my plumbers competence

So on the one hand I'm bad because I'm daring to question what has been done by a 'professional' and it's not fair that he's getting this criticism behind his back, and I'm also bad because I've taken care not to name him in a public forum. I've taken care not to name him because it looked...

He was caucasian and mumbled in English. I never saw any evidence of him reading.

    Worried about my plumbers competence

I've told the builder I'm happy with his work and that of his other subbies. The builder is getting someone else to review the installation and tell him if I'm talking *******s (which, form his point of view, I suppose I may be - though even if he knows nothing whatsoever about plumbing, the...

    Worried about my plumbers competence

My principal concern was that if I appointed (say) the plasterer and the electrician and the plumber, then I am stuck with also negotiating an agreed programme of works and managing handovers and so on. The electrician won't want to be hooking stuff up and testing it at the same time that the...

    Worried about my plumbers competence

So if you go and buy a new car, do you think it reasonable for the garage to expect you to take responsibility for fitting the wiring loom? At a restaurant, do you think you should appoint the chef and the waiter individually? In point of fact, this is a substantial (I'm moved out for seven...

    Worried about my plumbers competence

I have tried. I found a few with the same name, and Gas Safe on the phone told me there are 15 in the country. But I know he's working away from home - he turns up for a week and works 12 ish hour days staying in a local B&B, then disappears for a while before reappearing for a week again...

    Worried about my plumbers competence

That's probably the clearest view of it. It's quite difficult to get that view unless you're about 7 or 8 feet tall and/or have eyes on quite long flexible stalks. Or a camera at arms reach. You might get pliers / spanner on the bottom end of the filling loop. You won't on the top.

    Worried about my plumbers competence

Thought you might like to see some general views of the completed 'fixed' install. Remember I specifically provided a cupboard much larger than the architect said was needed, and larger than the builder said was needed, so that everything would be laid out tidily and easily maintainable...
