Trying to fit a PIR switch

The switch will normally have one live, and one switched live. No neutral. You would need to import the neutral from the light position for the pir to operate. Part P of the building regulations applies though as you will then be altering the fixed wiring in a special location. Might be...

    spur

Yes. But from your point of view, it will be better to use the spare way to feed the outside socket. That way you only have to test what you have fitted, and not look at anything else. As has been said though, you still have to notify and you still have to consider the existing earthing...

    spur

At the moment, if your existing internal socket is ran from a 32a MCB feeding two other cables then it is already a spur. So you can't run your new outside socket straight though the wall from that point. Do you use the existing internal socket? If you don't then you could change it for a...

    16th edition course

Haven't done the course with the niceic, but it will just be a basic overview of what you are likely to come across in domestic installations. Shouldn't worry about in depth calculations. Most domestic work is down to standard circuits. If you already have experience then it will probably...

    Wall light switch

most wholesalers keep small pull switches in for wall lights and such. Fixing them neatly might be a problem though, depending on your light fitting. If you have just bought your new lights, can you not replace them with similar only with built in switches? It's quite a common problem. I'd...

I dont understand this can anybody help?????

check the fuses again. It sounds like you should have a separate fuse supplying the cooker point. Before you do that, check your new switch wiring on the oven to see what has caused the fuse to blow.

    Ducting - help please

I would normally duct via the shortest route possible. Straight out preferably, or failing that up and then out. Up being the way heat likes to go anyway. The less bends the better and I have only ever seen very short lengths of ducting going down. Trying to extract down bank seems to go...

    2 plugs into 1

Were the "unwanted" cables connected into the "2 plug socket" before you started? If that's the case then they need to go into the "1 plug socket" as well. I'm not sure I have that right though, so if you could explain your problem again, just to be sure?

Earth Bonding - Separate cables for Water and Gas Pipes ?

Oh Yes! But not regarding that.

    Ducting - help please

Up and over the room above? A normal shower fan won't have the capacity to extract over that distance. Could be done, but you would have to install a mighty big fan!

Earth Bonding - Separate cables for Water and Gas Pipes ?

Not ideal to use just one cable, but it is allowed, so long as the cable isn't cut. ie. it is ran through the first bonding clip. What size is the existing cable? That will be a problem if it is below 10mm.

    Microwave Oven Problem

If the internal fuse is blowing then you could be looking at any number of components being the cause. magnetron? Capacitor? PCB? Switches? Anything. You need to be very careful opening up microwaves though. The capacitor will retain a serious charge even when switched off. So best advice is...

    Can I test the ring

gerren. Given what you have said, you should explain to your customer that you can't connect the new shaver points, as their existing installation falls below the standard that is required to carry out the required testing procedure, and complete the relevant certificate. You could use the...

    Becoming an Electrician

Check with your local firms. See if they have any big contracts coming up or on going? Maybe they would take you on as a mate and you could gain some experience that way? I did that. It was a few years back mind, so not sure if it still works that way. Be worth a few calls though.

    ceiling light

Only way really is to use connectors, which then need to be enclosed. Or a small junction box. Or you leave the existing pendant in place, but replace the twin flex feeding the bulb holder with three core, so you can then connect the new fitting alongside the existing pendant position, but fed...
