Can I float solid oak T&G in kitchen under units?

I think the title says it all. At present the kitchen floor is ceramic tiles. We're about to replace all the kitchen units and install a range cooker. Can we lay a floating floor of 18mm solid oak T&G (as we have some boards left over from the bedroom though we will need a few more) and if so...

    Parquet floor restoration

Thanks for your reply WoodYouLike and apologies for my delayed response. I'm attaching another few photos where I very lightly sanded the blocks in the hope of getting an idea as to what they are. The border strip almost looks like the main blocks stained black. Is that possible...

    Parquet floor restoration

Thanks for your reply WoodYouLike. Any idea from the photo what wood I'm looking for - I suspect oak - and where I might find the rightish sized blocks. Very very few needed just for a couple of repairs. What's really doing me in is finding strips of wenge on its own 1/2" wide. There are various...

Oil, wax or varnish new oak boards in bedroom?

Are you serious? Just out of interest, once the wax has cured (c. 1 week?) does it still give off any VOCs? Thanks

    Parquet floor restoration

Taking up a cheap laminate floor with the intention of exposing and then restoring floorboards in the hall we were delighted to discover parquet flooring. The damage seems to be fairly minimal, the main area being near what was a sealed door which was not covered by the laminate and which seems...

Oil, wax or varnish new oak boards in bedroom?

OK. Lovely looking new solid oak boards laid in the bedroom: a relatively low traffic area. At the moment they are unfinished and I am in love with the look and the feel and texture underfoot. However. I now need to give them some protection. If possible I would like to darken them...

    Farrow and Ball floor paint

Interestingly I went back to Farrow and Ball and said it must have been defective. They sent it to their labs for testing and eventually I received a call back that it was "slightly" lower than spec but that I could have my money back. Very nice lab chap called and told me they knew it was very...

    Wood primer not drying

[/url] I'm glad you gave it that endorsement as the bloke in the Dulux Trade Centre gave the same advice when I popped in a couple of hours ago and I bought a tin!

    Wood primer not drying

Thanks for that. I wondered if perhaps I hadn't mixed it well enough but it seemed pretty homogenous. Anyway, as said, slowly slowly it seems to feel better. I'll wait till it feels completely dry before rubbing down and moving on.

    Wood primer not drying

100 year old house. Previously sealed doors between two rooms. Hot air stripped paint down to bare wood and rubbed down so shouldn't have been any moisture in it. But slowly, slowly seems to feel better. Just out of interest is oil based primer best or would, for example a trade water...

    Wood primer not drying

Just to update. It's not "tacky" so much as it feels "damp". No other way of describing it.

    Wood primer not drying

I painted some newly installed architrave with solvent based "Dulux for Wood" "Interior & Exterior Use Primer". 2 days later and it's still slightly tacky. Can anyone advise please? Will it eventually dry and how long? Should I have used water based (which I find never gives a smooth...

    Asbestos containing floor tiles????

Thanks for replies. Our builder popped in and reckoned they were slate. Anyway, he removed the rest of them so all problems over. And if they did contain asbestos and we inhaled some then it's too late now. (In the 70s my brother and I used to play on our asbestos garage roof with parts...

    Asbestos containing floor tiles????

Panic. We are renovating an Edwardian house that's been bashed about a bit and underneath the carpet were some old brown tiles in the old hearth. They are brown and almost clay like. Fairly uniform colour about 5mm thick and stuck to the concrete hearth with a bitumen type glue. We...
