Lateral force of Roofing sheets on a pitched flat roof.

@ Static and Deluks --- thank you both VERY much, you have been a great help. If I may ask one final question before I leave this thread in the clutches of the archives: Are we still talking about the concept of supporting a horizontal member on the corner posts (additional vertical support...

Lateral force of Roofing sheets on a pitched flat roof.

Thanks for that. Yes, the existing rafters are spaced way too far apart and I can only assume this was because of the original notion of supporting a lightweight plastic roof. And yes, it is a single skin 4" block wall, which is why I am concerned. I think I might look at 2 x new joists...

Lateral force of Roofing sheets on a pitched flat roof.

As per usual - difficult to describe the problem without actually seeing it, but here goes: I have an attached garage which is 6m long and 3.3m wide and it runs along the side of the house so that one of the 6m walls is the house wall. Joists run across the width of the garage - with a very...

Damp room with "Warm Roof" and no ventilation

Hi there - sorry for the delay in responding, off feet at work yesterday! Yes, will be blocking up behind the main doors as well as the single door into the backyard --- but there is a door leading into the kitchen which will left in place (beefed up with 4 x layers 18mm MDF and a layer or...

Damp room with "Warm Roof" and no ventilation

Well, well, well ... a chip and a putt from me then --- I am in Banstead. Wouldn't mind giving you a ring at some point to chat about the constant compromises and crossed fingers if you have a 20 minute window sometime? I am all over the place at the moment with this garage - cold roof vs warm...

Damp room with "Warm Roof" and no ventilation

Don't forget the dedicated Didgeridoo isolation booth! Nah - I actually have a vast collection of older school kit, although I do record to hard disk --- but stubbornly refusing to submit to the world of plugins, so use PC (Cubase SX-3 with 16 analogue in 32 analogue out soundcards)...

Damp room with "Warm Roof" and no ventilation

Right - so air drawing across ceiling void only? Is there no need to try to induce air to draw from ground/floor level? Or is this covered by the theory of the damp on the floor eventually evaporating due to the warmth of the insulation in the void between the original walls and the inner...

Damp room with "Warm Roof" and no ventilation

Aha - now that might be someting to investigate. So rather than having "natural" breeze/airflow ventilation, you will be forcing the flow with a fan? Hmmmm - surely a massive saving on the £1500 (materials alone) for my warm roof plan. Where would these fans be pulling air from though -...

Damp room with "Warm Roof" and no ventilation

I am about to turn my garage flat roof into a "Warm Roof" (I have a seperate thread discussing this task in the Roofing section) with the primary goal of having no ventilation whatsoever, as I will be building a decoupled room inside this sealed garage shell to use as a music/recording studio -...

OK - I see what you are saying. Thanks for that. Steve

150mm Kingspan warm roof - flashing???

Fair point and I will look into this. One question, when you mention "going over the face of the rafters", do you mean the vertical face, so that each rafter is kind of wrapped in insulation as such? Rafters are 150mm x 50mm. Thanks Steve

Garage damp where floor meets wall.

OK - got it. Thanks for all the help and patience. Steve

Garage damp where floor meets wall.

Thank you very much for that. I realise this is bottom-feeder stuff for many, but this gives me a clear understanding. If I may ask one more question - if I create a trench-like channel right up against the wall that ends up beneath the DPC as a sort of natural seepage/drain, then how does...

Garage damp where floor meets wall.

Hello and thanks for the replies. Sorry about my confusing initial post - I had originally posted a very long explanation that was even MORE unclear  so I shortened it last night and probably left it with less flow. ps. I have reworded it again this morning. I can confirm (I...

Garage damp where floor meets wall.

Apologies in advance - I don't usually do this, but I desperately need a single *bump* here as I have had two contractors out who have both stated that they do not do this type of job, so I may need to undertake this myself. Steve

Garage damp where floor meets wall.

I have now edited/shortened this port as it was VERY long. The garage that is attached to our house has damp patches where the wall meets the floor at various points along two walls (only after it has been raining). The 2 x problematic walls are: 1. The wall opposite the double garage...
