Don't have one.

I'm beginning to think I have some unknown entity in my house. But why it's taken 10 months to be noticed I've no idea. This is a brand new house by the way. I have come to the realisation I will just have to grin & bear it & hope I get accustomed to it to the point I 'block it out'.

I have asked them already. They don't hear anything they say.

Okay, so I tried all suggestions. I turned the main water supply off and drained the water from all taps and toilets and left it off for hours. I cut all electricity to the house. I sat in complete silence and I was still hearing the banging. I'm bewildered as to what it could be.

Will do. I don't have a cylinder - it's a combi boiler.

Would this cause the banging though..?

I will try this. It shouldn't be an electrical fault though, the house is less than 12 months old.

Only water pipes would be in between the joists. Heating is off and the combi boiler is in the opposite corner of the house.
