    Women's football hurts my ears!

At a men's football match, the roar of the crowd resembles thunder. At a women's football match, the 'roar' of the crowd resembles a flock of angry seagulls fighting over chips. It's horrible. Make them stop.

Add a battery to my solar?

Thanks all for your input re this. Having digested this information, I have decided not to go ahead with the battery at this juncture. It seems that our energy usage with the current setup is very low anyway. We're using about 4kw per day mid-summer (that figure doubles during the winter). At...

Add a battery to my solar?

We had the ASHP and solar panels installed a year ago (simultaneously). The inverter that was installed doesn't support a battery. Recently, a sales rep for another company (there are millions of them) suggested using an AC charger? Currently, the power generated by the solar setup is only...

Add a battery to my solar?

Dear Solar Nerds, Okay, so I'm currently running a simple south-facing 2.5kw solar setup that reduces our bill quite significantly, but I'm planning to add a battery in order to maximise the benefits. I recall the original installation engineer saying that my inverter wouldn't support a battery...

    What's this heating system???

Don't rush into this. You might find that there's a very simple heating system that fits perfectly with your lifestyle, but you might choose to sacrifice certain creature comforts for the sake of economy. I'm one of the seven people in the UK who are happy running an ASHP system!

    Replacing water damaged plasterboard

Wayners knows. Also, maybe rethink your shower seal setup. Silicone is used far too much if you ask me... which you didn't. Lol

    Quality of timber

Some suppliers state '70% perfect' (or something like that) on the invoice, which basically means that you're going to get 3 bananas in every 10. It's worth hand-picking for a small project, but I always end up using the seconds for noggins etc on larger jobs.

    Nissan Qashqai Mystery Symbol?

I don't do cars. They make my brain hurt. I'm hoping that there's a kind person out there who can tell me what this little white symbol means? Thank you! :)

    Impossible is nothing, except this?

No. If that was the case, I was thinking it might be possible to set up the waste with a push-fit socket so I could just line it up and push it into place. Trouble is, I like to see that a good joint has been achieved.

    Impossible is nothing, except this?

Unfortunately, I don't have that option. Once again, I think I'm going to have to conform to convention. How boring. Lol

    Impossible is nothing, except this?

I really like this all-in-one cast stone bathroom basin, but HOW would you go about plumbing in the waste? The back of the unit is open, so flexible braided tap connectors could be used for the taps (no access to isolator valves?) BUT without using a long, flexible waste pipe from the trap, I...

    Sewer pipe air vent question

Assuming that the 90 degree bend in the corner is a standard fitting, I can't see an issue with this. It's almost identical to the setup in my place BUT note that my waste heads directly down to the drains at the point it leaves the bathroom!!

    Sewer pipe air vent question

The fact that you can't readily find a three-way junction that works in this scenario would indicate that it's not a 'normal' arrangement. Anyone got a solution for this?

    Repointing advice

We had an entire house repointed a few years back. The build was soft red, but it had previously been repointed using sand and cement. Obviously this had caused widespread spalling, which had put off other buyers. Our guy spent 3 months grinding, raking out and repointing with hydraulic lime and...

Does this look right to you?

You need that dude with long hair from the Stella TV ad to fix it! Looks as if the original ridge tile was dislodged and someone made a temporary fix in a downpour. Obviously it needs trimming to fit and bedding down with mortar.

    ASHP Holiday Mode £££?

It's a Mitsubishi Electric dual controller for water and central heating with the Ecodan system. We also have solar panels. All windows and doors were closed and nobody came or went during the two weeks. It's a mystery!
