    Transformer rating

Use the old transformer, so long as the output is 30V. The new pump draws less current which is kinder to the transformer. Always safer to have sprare capacity on transformer output, but a 5A transformer cannot be used for a 6A load.

    Central Heating Pumps

Most pumps have two types of pressure 'head' in their specifications. One is flow-rate achieved at each pump speed against a 'head' stated in metres (water gauge). Imagine the pump is pumping uphill to to a tank 3m above the pump. The resistance to flow is a product of how high the hill is and...

Hot Water - Once? Twice? On?

If your hot water cylinder is well insulted, why not leave it on 24 hours? My cylinder has a foam layer and very little heat-loss. I know this is slightly wasteful of energy, but the advantage is worth the cost (in my opinion). When you have the heating/hot water timed to come on at the same...

Does this sound like a push fit connection?

No PTFE. If the tube is roud and the 'O' ring sitting in a groove, it will seal. Make sure the tube is not sharp-edged, it could rip the 'O' ring. Spit on the tube and slide it in. The joint is not under much pressure, so long as the shower rose is not blocked with limescale.

Does this sound like a push fit connection?

The installation manual shows the top fitting of the rising tube to be just an 'O' ring (push fit). The lower connection is a compression fitting and needs an olive. Maybe a loose olive found its way in there?

CAn anyone tell me what is the purpose of using FUSE & M

Sorry your question has not been answered by a professional, so here goes. The supply to my house in the UK is protected by a 100A fuse, installed by the electricity supplier and retained by locking-wire with their tamper-proof seal. This is to protect their underground/overhead cables and only...

hot & COLD FEED AROUND WRONG WAY???????????

Sounds like he has fitted an internally-mixing bath tap. If the hot water pressure (from the combi) exceeds the cold water pressure (from the softener) there is a chance of reverse-flow. The softener circuit may have a pressure-reducing valve fitted. Some mixers have two waterways all the way...

    Differential/Interupteur Disjoncteurs

I think your 'DD' is an RCD. I think your 'ID' is an MCB. Plenty to read here:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Residual-current_device http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circuit_breaker#Internal_details_of_a_European_breaker http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Technical/Distribution/Mcb.htm

    Electrical Wiring in Thailand

That sounds like a top-quality installation to me. A friend, who is developing a complex in Pattaya had no earth leakage protection (RCD) on his system, but the pool was protected by a step-down transfomer. If you look at a German DIN plug, it is 2-pin + earth side-wiper and competely...

    4 core isolation.

The extra wire may be a frost protection live (not timed). If you are offering isolation close to the boiler, a 3-pole switch would be required. A .pdf is available here. http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Technical/DataSheets/MK/Index.htm

    inverter/ generator powering worcester combi

Some flame-failure devices are polarity sensitive and require a neutral to work. We exported burners to Brazil and they connected them to a 220V line-to-line (Hot) supply. Without the neutral, they would not light. The solution was to connect to a 110V line to neutral supply and use a step-up...

    Expansion Tank Getting Hot

You may have a 'Primatic' Hot Tank/Cold Tank that has lost its bubble. You may have a Fortic tank? Have you fitted a mixer tap recently using cold main pressure Vs Hot tank pressure? Is your boiler temperature set too high, causing boiling? Is an Immersion heater constantly ON, causing...
