Correct way of fitting new soffits and facia.

The facias are rotten at the box ends mainly. But also in a few other places too. Just not sure of the correct way. I thought new timber, which is just on the facia, first then upvc over the top may not be the correct way. Just confused really

Correct way of fitting new soffits and facia.

I am in the process of getting quotes for new soffits and facias. The current ones are wood, rotting in a number of places, plus the guttering has seen better days. I have had two quotes so far, one £300 more expensive than the other. both providing different ways to fit the new soffits and...

    Damp concrete floor.

Yes there is an old floor adhesive. On some of the floor. This is why i was thinking of using a liquid dpm under the problem part of the floor and then screening over the top.

    Damp concrete floor.

I have seen a liquid DPM in wickes. which I was thinking of using to paint over the tear in the membrane and then re-screed over that. Not sure if the liquid DPM can be screeded over or not. Does this sound like the best idea or is there a better approach? Many thanks

    Damp concrete floor.

Hi all, Apologies in advance for the long post. I recently removed the lino in the kitchen and found a damp patch about 1 ft long by 6" wide in the concrete floor. The back of the lino was mouldy in that area too. Thinking that I had a leak from one of the central heating pipes buried in...

    Gurgling boiler

I eventually piped it up as a combined vent and feed and got rid of the trickling noise by re-balencing the system. I recently drained down again to replace two leaking rad valves and now the trickling noise is back, but the trick of re-balancing the system did not clear it this time. I...

    Upgrading loft bracing.

Ok got the wood and straps now to do the bracing this weekend. Should I be using the straps on both gable walls? One is an outside wall the other is the deviding wall between the two semi's. Many thanks

New central heating - gurgling & running water noises

Did you get to the bottom of this? I'm having similar problems. It seems I have an air lock after draining down which will not budge.

    Upgrading loft bracing.

Hopefully one last question before I go head and update the loft bracing. Should they also be tied in to the gable party wall with "BAT" straps as well as the gable end wall as it is a semi? At the moment the roof trusses are only tied in to the gable end wall. Didn't know if they should also...

    Upgrading loft bracing.

Thanks John. The house is only 33 years old, but I do prefer preventing issues rather than curing them later. I may just get the clear as it is already a brown colour and just go over everything. It won't hurt I guess. Also may as well do it before I board it as it will be easier.

    Upgrading loft bracing.

Do you guys think that it would be a good idea to treat the current timbers that are in the loft with a preservative while I am at it? I hear horror stories of woodworm and rot, and always think prevention is better than cure! Any recomendations to the preservative? Thanks Ads

    Upgrading loft bracing.

Thanks for your help. The report says both cross bracing and diagonal bracing. I have got one diagonal brace on the opposite side to where the pictures are taken. But it is not nailed to every truss only about one in three! The water tank is not on doubled trusses but is close to the...

    Upgrading loft bracing.

Just to add about half way across the span under the ceiling joists is a stud wall, I guess this could be load bearing to help with the span. While I am at it I am going to board some of the loft for storage. I'm just a bit worried about the amout of weight. Any ideas what sort or weight a...

    Garage Extension planning needed?

Thanks freddymercurystwin. The extension would be single story and so no more than the original garage eaves height, around 2.6m, with a flat roof would be easiest. I would like to build the wall on the same line as the fence is to keep the width of the garage if possible. Although for the...

    Garage Extension planning needed?

Hi All, I am thinking of a garage extension as the current one is 16ft long which is a little short. I live in a semi-detached house where the single garage is joined to next doors single garage. The current rear wall of the garage is set back from the rear wall of the house and I wish to...
