    Upgrading loft bracing.

Ok just been up there and measured the joists holding the ceiling up and the joists that the tile battens nail on to (sorry not sure what they are called) These measure 35 x 95mm. the rest of the supports that make up the whole roof truss are 35 x 70mm. The roof trusses go the whole length of...

    Upgrading loft bracing.

Thank you very much. That is basically what the surveyor said regarding the size of the timber. I am from the essex area and don't believe to be in a non standard area. I wondered if normal sawn timber was ok for the job or if a more structural timber was required. I am not sure what they...

    Upgrading loft bracing.

Hi all, When I bought my house a year ago there was an advisory regarding loft bracing. When I enquired about this he said there was a lack of diagonal bracing to the roof trusses. Also a lack of ties on the gable wall. Looking closer there are metal ties on the gable wall but no noggins...

    F & E Back filling

update. I still have a problem where when the pump switches off the 22mm combined vent and feed gets red hot right up to the tank and water flows in to the tank. Although the trickiling noise I originally had has quietened down quite a bit it is still there slightly. Does anyone have anymore...

    F & E Back filling

I converted to a combined vent and feed as suggested by 45yearsagasman. However I still get hot water rising up this pipe in to the F&E tank when the pump switches off. When the pump starts up again it pulls water in through the combined vent and feed as it pulls in cold water again and the pipe...

    F & E Back filling

Checked the connections tonight. all tight and no air seems to be coming in there. I also checked the magnaclean in case air was getting in there. but all seems fine. Do you think a combined vent and feed would stop the F&E tank from back filling on pump switch off? Thanks for everyones help.

    F & E Back filling

I have not checked this, I will check the connections tonight, suspect they probably are as they are not weeping etc, but something else to check. Thanks I guess any partial blockage could cause this, so maybe worth cutting the pipe and checking I suppose.

    F & E Back filling

I called it an 'H' piece as I didn't know what else to call it! At least you understood what I ment. :) I have checked all around this section with a magnet and looked in to the pipe whilst T-ing the feed in to the vent and all looked clear. Could there be a partial blockage that the...

    F & E Back filling

I do appreciate everyones help. I wanted to try and keep the vent as an extra safety measure. If I combined the vent and feed, like you suggest, wouldn't the hot water just back fill the tank up the 22mm pipe? Or would this not happen? Obviously I am not a pro, so just trying to work out the...

    F & E Back filling

Hi All, Thanks for all the help so far from this site. Following on from this thread http://www.diynot.com/forums/plumbing/gurgling-boiler.292682/ I have changed my pipe arrangement so that the feed T's in to the vent about 6 inches above the 'H' section. I done this as I wanted to try...

Can anyone confirm my questions above please? Hoping to combine the vent and feed this weekend. Thanks

    Gurgling boiler

Just found this in the instruction manual for the boiler. Do I need an air separator? Or does this do the same job as the vent on the 15mm pipe as in 45yearsgasman's post. Also found this I presume item 14 is the over heat protection that you refer to? Thanks for everyones help on...

    Gurgling boiler

Thanks 45yearsagasman. This had been suggested before by the person who serviced the boiler. I was worried about safety of the system if something fails. So was thinking of T-ing the feed in to the vent, so that I still have a vent from a safety point of view, but not sure it this would cure it...

    Gurgling boiler

I cannot find a blockage in the feed pipe or Vent pipe as it joins the 'H' section with a magnet. Could this still be partially blocked causing the problem? I am thinking of cutting this out and replacing to rule out a blockage in that area. This will then bring the 'H' section closer to the...
