To noggin or not to noggin?

[b]You need to make sure that any boards are well fixed at the edges as well as across the centre of the boards. As a general rule, the boards should not move once nailed/screwed in to place. A tiny bit of play is ok but ideally there should be no movement in the boards. The reson for this is...

    worcester 24iJunior help needed please

How cheap would it be and how do you suggest getting around the logistics of the situation? Given that you are in London and I am in Manchester! If you can do it for less than I can buy the pump then please, feel free.

    worcester 24iJunior help needed please

Just had a problem with my 24i and was looking at a big bill. The pump has gone and I'm getting crazy prices just for the part. Over £100 but guess what. I can get one on e-bay for £35, so check on there before you part with any money. You may need to find out the make and model of your fan...

OK, done that. My tester has 3 lights on it. 110v, 220/240v and 415v. The 110 and 240 ones lit up. I guess this means I have 240. It gives the reading wether I have the heating switched on or not.

I've taken the side off and there are 2 red wires going into the pump and a Live, Earth and Neutral. I cannot get my probe into contact with the Live and Neutral as it is. Can I remove the wires from the connection and test them that way just to make sure they are delivering voltage to the...

The shaft does not spin, it just continues to drip.

What do you make of this plaster, pics attached...

It looks as though the walls were not properly bonded before being skimmed. The fact that the boarded walls are OK would appear to back up this theory. I was doing some work last week and had to keep to the smaller ares of the job for a day and a half due to how warm it was. Not sunny...

    Plastering and skirting boards

I agree with you chaps mostly but, we are not talking about tiny areas here or corners or reveals. It's flat areas above and below a rail. It's a 100 year old house. Take off the rails and they won't be straight anymore and therefore won't be easily refitted if at all. Leave them, skim round...

Worcester 24i Junior making funny noises

Cheers Namsag. Just had a look. I took out the large flat screw head and some water came out and continued to drip. Behind the screw head is the end of a shaft with a square keyway in the end. This turns freely with a screwdriver, does that mean the pump is gone and if so what is the most...

    Dry wall adhesive

You have just enough as long as you don't have to apply too many thick dabs. I would have 2 bags ready cos the guidlines usually say 2 and a half to 3 boards.

    applying drywall adhesive.

Get a long length of straight timber and find the "HIGH SPOT" on your wall. Start boarding here, then any subsequent boards will obviously need more glue to bring them up level.

Thistle Board Finish is what you need. Don't forget to PVA the dry plaster first though.

    Time To Plaster Flat Wall

I hope you didn't shell out a lot of money for this guy to come and sand your walls down! To be honest, I've never heard of anything like that in my life. I would be having words with him. If you have a plasterer in to do one wall you should be thanking him for his time by mid afternoon and...

    dot and dab or not

Dot and Dab is the way that most plasterers do it nowadays. I would just say this, always dab the wall and not the board and don't ever apply any PVA to the wall. Board glue is made to be applied to porous walls. If walls are extremely dry and dusty you can damp them slightly with water but...

    DIY plastering

You ask a difficult question and all the answers you have received are correct for their own reasons. I did a 4 day course a couple of years ago and then came home and started plastering my own house and I am happy with the results. I have now plastered the whole thing. I now do work for other...

    Plastering and skirting boards

I agree. It's ok to leave them on and will also make the job easier for the plasterer cos the areas he has to cover are smaller. The downsides are that the plaster may obscure the edge of the Dado/Picture rail if it is very fine and also, if you ever want to change it in the future, you will...

Worcester 24i Junior making funny noises

This is my first post here and I am really hoping that it provides me with the answers that I am looking for :) I have not needed to use my central heating for at least the last 4/6 weeks due to the weather being almost summerlike :!: So, the other day I thought I had better run it for half...
