Im in Edinburgh, looking at one of the suppliers catalogue I would say the boys are more than correct.......... Ariston Boilers average about £400- £500, flue £50 , other bits and pieces £100 max , work the maths out and I would say around an expensive £500 for labour ....... wahey £1000 profit!!!!

    central heating blow off

Not much to go on, could be a number of things. Is the water coming in to the F&E boiling hot or cold, is the pump running?? Was it happening before you changed the valve??......Give us a wee bit more details, lots of skilled guys on here , more info and Im sure they will see you right.

I have a problem with my boiler.

Expansion vessel is the big balloon like metal tank with a pipe coming out of it into the heating system usually located in the back of the boiler behind the combustion chamber etc. Kev is spot on , this could cause the water to discharge through the safety valve to outside when the boiler is...

    Vokera Options Combi Boiler

I think this whole site operates on a small measure of common sense, I think all us 'experts' expect the advice given to be a guide to analysing a fault not definitive plans of action. Are we supposed to answer every question with ' leave it , call a professional'. Lets give folk a wee bit of...

    Dishwasher door

In my experience most have access to the door catch after removing the top but most do not lock......... they have switches to stop them if you pull the door open but not much else to do with the door as far as opening and closing.

    Vokera Options Combi Boiler

Dont know this boiler off by heart but I would agree and go for the air pressure switch with this one, they can also be upset if it relies on the seal of the combustion chamber being airtight for a pressure differential, tubes have to be a fairly good fit. The ignition sequence will not start...

    Thermostatic Shower vs manual mixer

Thermostatic mixers will balance the flows according to temperature, standard mixers let you do this yourself with the taps. Thermostatic mixers often have gauze filters to keep dirt out of the poppet valves, check these if you can but in general the waterways in a thermostatic valve are more...

no heating or water even though boiler and pump working

I am guessing here on some points but this sounds like a no flow situation throught the boiler so it thinks it is up to temperature and cuts out accordingly. If the timeclock has the facility to do both water and heating seperately then both should be wired to the timeclock . Like kev says...

Just a guess......... Door switch, pressing it down might just mean it works, just a guess but first thing to look at.

    Pipe Frost Stat

The siting of a frost stat depends on what it is you want to protect, where water sits static for any length of time it can be vulnerable so lofts and underfloors are old favourites for bursts. Site it where it will get coldest first this will switch the heating or pumps on earlier, moving...

    Replacing a faulty Switchmaster timer

You may be able to get a replacement timer which mounts on to the existing backplate but if it is too old this may not be possible. Most timeclock arrangements are similar in the wiring but if you are not confident doing this job which may entail a complete backplate change to a different style...

    BACK BOILER REMOVAL

Done these a couple of times, the nice enclosed stoves built into a mantle, teapots sitting heating on top etc and swopped them for living flame gas fires with the boiler going elsewhere and all I can say is they are effing heavy and not that easy to break up either, both I did were burst heat...

    Mixer shower on a combi

Any decent mixer valve if its thermostatically controlled should control the flows of both hot and cold and as long as your boiler is providing adequate hot water which I presume it is. Putting it close to the boiler will reduce the time it takes to get hot water there but its not likely to stop...

    drain and fill boiler

Ah well this makes things a little simpler, 1 radiator to be changed doesnt necessarily mean you have to drain the boiler particularily. If you are retaining the valves that are currently fitted then you can isolate both and only remove the water in the 1 radiator without shutting off anything...

    drain and fill boiler

To drain these you first isolate the system electrically then the feed water for the tank for the system feed and expansion (usually in the loft, but otherwise at highest point possible). The heating system should have a drain if it has been installed properly or if you are lucky enough to have...

    BAXI SOLO 3 PFL Range

I too have been working on boilers both domestic and commercial for the last 22 years. Without being patronising to anyone especially other experts on this forum the people who ask us questions I would suggest that most would not know the difference between electronic ignition and permanent...

    BAXI SOLO 3 PFL Range

OOO Im sorry Im not looking at it right now but as it happens on an earlier posted query somebody mentioned relighting the pilot on Baxi Solo , not having a catalogue of spec in my head and absolutely sure the enquiring person may not know either but one starts with the basic questions and...
