Builder set cable into concrete with no conduit.

The carpenter did the quick fix. I'll check with him when he arrives later. I've also just taken one of the sockets off the wall and there is indeed a correctly wired earth in the back of it.

I certainly doesn't look like it. However there is a gas pipe in the drywall right next to the socket that might have been used as an earth, if that is at all possible. I can't actually check that though.

Well, we very happy with our builder and the original job his team did (very clean, even mopping at the end of every day) so this would be keeping to his standards. We very much appreciate the time and advice everyone has given.

I found the regs...strangely the first link was an Irish site so I didn't check it at first.

Builder set cable into concrete with no conduit.

I checked with the carpenter this morning - yes two boxes are going in. A link would be handy. Google is not helping much. Well, according to the carpenter the builder has apparently accepted responsibility and is sending the original electrician to fit the boxes tomorrow morning...

So either the resin kit, or a maintenance free junction box behind the boxing is the way to go. Brilliant, either solution certainly sounds better than the worse case scenario I was dreading. It hopefully wont even cost us anything if our builder sticks to his word. Thank you all very...

Builder set cable into concrete with no conduit.

It turns out the cable damage was in the floor of the WC on the other side of the wall, not the main room. This is the link off the ring main in the kitchen to the workshop conversion. (The WC and adjoining hallway is all part and parcel of the conversion). It looks like the carpenter was...

As I understand it the cable was in the screed so he must have been drilling down into it. That's all I have to go on at the moment. I know the cable was running from one socket to the other under the floor so it would have probably been directly under the socket. I'll find out more in a...

Yes, I haven't quite worked out why he was drilling to the screed either. I thought the skirting got fixed to the wall. He is also boxing in the pipes in the corner, but they aren't too close so I'm not sure if it has anything to do with that.

Yes, I had found that reg but I can see it being debatable. Apparently he is going to put in a new junction box. Not sure what that means though at this stage.

Builder set cable into concrete with no conduit.

Hi, We are having flooring and skirting put into a workshop/garage conversion. Last year our builder completed the main part of this job by fully insulating the room including damp-proofing the floor and covering with screed. Electrical sockets were also installed in two locations via a...

No such thing as white gloss any more?

Well, I'm afraid I've let the side down. :( My other half has done an excellent job with the paint after getting some primer to go in between the oil-based gloss and the new water-based, better than I could have managed with my ham fists. I took all the old carpet up downstairs today...

No such thing as white gloss any more?

So, tonight we spent a while trying out our new brushes and technique. We sanded the skirting first and the paint came off in big flakes, then wiped down with a damp sponge at first then later we keyed it and washed it with sugar soap when we realised the paint was being repelled in places...

No such thing as white gloss any more?

From what I've been reading water based is the only option for internal white 'gloss' now, but decent brushes are essential so I'm off at lunchtime to pick up some Purdy brushes. I noticed where I slapped the paint on thick and fast (just the way my other half hates me to do it) it was...
