Mmmmm Possibly an airlock? Can you run a hose from a tap downstairs which is on mains pressure to the tap in bathroom, then force airlock back in tank. Some time the air fills the top section of a pipe or bend and any water will just trickle under it?

Its always best to ask the obvious but its correct. Its an intermittant problem. The Tempus has a couple of neons indicating when on and they are not illumiated. Pump runs and boiler on but room stat not controlling (stat also has neons red and green and they are not on). I get woken up...
