Thank you. yes, can definitely o that. My friend has a multitool that can cut straight across those boards. Then he has a special camera on a bendy wand though, actually, I think that for a clearer pic I might just stick my digital camera down there and take a few pics with the flash on.

Which material and joints for shelving? (2)

Update .... I am still cogitating on this project. (Unfortunately, when as part of the planning I moved some videos on a shelf in the room and discovered a large extent of mould spores, so my attention has been diverted to ripping out bits of the existing fittings to investigate THAT...

Hi Ree. Not responding to the request for a fireplace photo was just an oversight on my part, owing to being more than a bit overwhelmed by all the responses on here, all the questions, all the advice, much of it contradicting other advice. I didn't sit down and give it consideration and then...

    PAINTING CHIPBOARD

Cheers, Mister. I'll stick with my eggshell, as that's what's on the wainscoting and skirtings etc. Edited to add: just bought the Zinsser Bullseye 123 primer via Amazon. Wish me luck! LHL

    PAINTING CHIPBOARD

Thank you both for the replies. I must confess, the words "spray paint" fill me with dread. Never used a sprayer, scared I'd make a mess of it, worried about breathing in the mist (I have severe allergies) ... so if there is a way to do it with a brush I would feel much more comfortable with...

There is a fireplace in place. There isn't anything for you to see. See pic Oooh blimey so many questions.... thank you for your interest. I cannot get up in the loft, must call a roofer. I am loath to rip up my floor unless there is no alternative. This would have to be ripped up to...

    PAINTING CHIPBOARD

Hi I love this unit but the black and beech does not match my white colour decor. Would it be a success if I painted it? I have a horrible feeling that the paint would be scraped off every time I opened or shut one of the drop-down sections. Any advice, please? LHL...

    Wet rot coniophora puteana

Cheers John Here are my plans: I'm going to drill a line of holes along that front plinth. If I use a tape measure and a spirit level they won't look too bad if they are regular and level. That will let air in. For a while, I'm going to leave off the skirting board, and not replace that...

You were RIGHT! I borrowed a damp meter and discovered by placing it all over the alcove that what I have here are two completely separate problems, something that the damp "specialist" failed to notice. The meter says that the wall is very wet (off the scale) up to about 6 inches above the...

Thanks Ree for your comments. I shall take your comments about the wooden shelves being melamine as a compliment on my amazing decorating skills! It's definitely wood. Pine, I'd say! More in next message.

Thank you for your reply. I feel an overwhelming sense of despair about all this. The thought of ripping out the woodwork, omg... Have you located an access trap for the sub-floor crawl space? Nope. No idea where that might be. What would happen if I just wash off the black spores and...

    Adding an inline switch?

That label was wrapped around the light cable. I flattened it on the laptop keyboard to photograph it. Are we concluding that I cannot fit an inline switch on such a cable, then?
